I really loved the movie. I am a little confused by the comments. A lot of people seemed to not have liked it. Some said it was confused. I understood the movie very well. Anyways, loved the movie and all the cast.
I absolutely loved this. The unsettling tension was strong from early on, and the scares were really good. I think it was good and haunting and pulled off great. The amount of wounds people walked away from was questionable, but i had fun. I think a second watch and catching little foreshadowing details would be fun.
Wow, what a trip! Cuckoo totally blew me away – it's beautifully strange and completely out there, but at the same time, visually stunning. The landscapes are breathtaking, with every shot looking like a piece of art, and the gloomy atmosphere just pulls you right into this eerie, unsettling world. It’s one of those films where you're thinking, “Okay, this is freaky, but I can't stop watching because it's just so gorgeous.”
And the cast – I’m absolutely cuckoo for Hunter Schafer and Dan Stevens. Hunter is so real and grounded in her role, while Dan is this subtle, off-the-wall guy in the best way possible. The two of them together? It’s like perfect chaos. They play off each other so well, I honestly can’t decide who I’m more obsessed with.
Then there’s this underlying thread of sisterhood between Hunter and her on-screen sister that slowly builds until you really start to see what’s at stake, especially when the story takes a darker, even weirder turn. What starts off as this eerie, creepy horror movie suddenly shifts into something way more intense. Right up my alley!
Without spoiling too much, it stops being just about survival; there's this deeper connection going on, especially around family. That tension amps everything up, making it feel even more chaotic and raw, like you’re watching this bizarre, terrifying horror unfold but still holding onto something very human underneath it all.
In the end, Cuckoo is a wild, surreal ride – eerie, stunning, and surprisingly emotional. I’m completely hooked, and I just can’t get enough of Hunter and Dan. They’re the perfect duo for this kind of bizarre, unpredictable film.
all the bird calls with the recorder woke my cat up, she gives this a 0/10
Something new and original, finally. I did everything to avoid knowing what this film was about, which can be hard these days. But I'm not saying anything other than that it's a must-watch for fans of horror.
My main gripe is that they never quite say what is happening, but otherwise, this one keeps you guessing if you're not paying attention.
Don't want to reveal too much, but it is really well acted even if some decisions on the script are questionable.
Some things in life are a certainty. Sun rising. Tides changing. Taxes. Death. In this case it is people that will not like this one. It is a weird and offsetting movie in certain areas, and I love it for that. It was made with a particular aesthetic and vibe that many will be turned away from. It reminded me of the feeling of when I watched Titane. If you are into the weird, unique horror, then check this one out.

It really wasn't that bad guys
Great concept and loved it for the most part. The bond between the two ‘sisters’ was the best part. There’s clearly a space for a sequel given the ending. Was the mother the lady chasing them or something else? I didn’t quite get that bit.
This is some strangely wasted potential by overthinking and being too clever for it's own good. It's sprinkled with foreshadowing and red herrings until you get busy second guessing the plot instead of watching the movie, while in all its cleverness it is still missing several open goals of both development and shockers. Then there are all the predominately male characters that actually all have good intentions from their own point of view albeit at opposition with each other and the protagonist, which is interesting but becomes crammed and the characters are simplistic and caricatures. Finally the effective but also done body horror cum coming of age and here with the contemporary en vogue queer flavour, that also isn't bad but could have been kneaded in better with the rest of the narrative. Yet, as mentioned, the potential sticks throughout the movie, very much carried by Gretchen and her butterfly knife. I'll still give it a seven for the ride, despite leaning towards a six because of the frustration that it could easily have been an eight or more.
