Slingshot

An elite trio of astronauts aboard a years-long, possibly compromised mission to Saturn's moon Titan, gears up for a highly dangerous slingshot manoeuvre that will either catapult them to Titan or into deep space.

This was actually a very good movie, it got my attention for the entire time. The twist at the end was surprising. As I call it, it was a bumpy journey!
Below is my opinion about the movie:
Personally, I think John did die in space, and there were 3 astronauts on board the ship. He was hallucinating most of the stuff. This movie is unique that it opens the door for you to question mostly everything in the movie whether it is real or not. What a good movie!
It was a pretty good sci-fi movie where you got to see a decent into madness from being in space so long. I still wonder about the ending though.
I am not sure why there is such a negative score on IMDB for this movie. The script and the actor completely got me hooked. I kept thinking to myself if we and John is really seeing and hearing what is real and what is factitious. I was even doubting myself the ending at one point, just overthinking all the clues.
Is this a movie you want to watch again, no... its not an Oscar material, but it does explore what could happen in isolation for extensive period of time without another human interaction.
I’m not sure why this got ragged on as much as it did. Perhaps the toying with “what is real” mechanic was a tad overused, but it did provide for opportunities for all of our leads to give great performances. I also may be a sucker for “am I going mad?” style movies, which this deftly fits. Part Solaris, part Fight Club, part Ad Astra… it definitely borrowed from other works, but ultimately I was quite engaged and actually like the final turn it took (I went with the darker interpretation).
Slingshot (2024) - ❤7
This is a Psychological Space Thriller with a twisted twist ending.
How I rate:
1-3 ❤ = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6 ❤ = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8 ❤ = I expect you will like this too
9-10 ❤ = movies and TV shows I really love!
While not terrible, this movie is also often times confusing and erratic, besides the confusion and the erraticness intended by the story itself. This implies that it does not always make sense, even when you know the surprise ending. The good acting performances by the main cast saves it from disaster, though it kind of feels like there was more possible with this base story and that cast. For Sci-Fi fans and fans of the cast.
Unfortunately despite good performances from all the cast, it was a pretty weak movie for me overall. I'm not even saying whether it was predictable or not, its just that the plot wasnt very powerful or grand. Its like a short movie on Dust YT channel that got much longer, and famous actors (basic sets though!) .
Overall Not a good space movie for me. Medium tepid recommendation.
Well, as usual, it's a space movie with
1 space scene
. It's like watching paint dry until the good plot, it feels like the plot idea was thought of 1st before they knew they were going to make a space movie. I was waiting for the
moon
exploration, maybe
encountering life forms on that moon
, but nah, just some mehh drama and a good plot. I don't recommend it.
So this movie was well done but also very predictable and a bit too long.
It has been done better before in other movies.
And it tries to give you the viewer every ending that you thought might be the ending.
The acting, set pieces, and cinematography were really good.
In away the title of this movie Slingshot can also describe the characters flashbacks to the past as they move closer to their future on the way to Jupiter and its moon Titan.
Like vodka with an ugli garnish: this is a routine mix with a ridiculous twist.
'Psychological sci-fi' translates as 'low budget romance' in this unoriginal voyage to the stars. The cast is all very solid but the story is uninspired and you can smell the twist coming from a mile away. It's a little surprising that this movie wasn't direct-to-streaming because it has that vibe all over it.
