"You're discharged... Sarge.

Can't believe that yesterday it was 30 years ago that Universal Soldier was released. Time flies!

Anyway Universal Soldier is still entertaining as can be. You have the fun van Damme restaurant scene and the movie stealing supermarket scene with big Dolph Lundgren. The action is solid and the explosions are big. Van Damme has to show off his butt again and you have some great one-liners. Ally Walker is a Linda Hamilton light and they should've given Michael Jai White more to do.

Roland Emmerich could've gotten more out of this but he still did a fine job. Universal Soldier is a great early 90's action movie and a must watch for any action fan. Lovely rewatch!

One of good Van Damme movies, old time classic already, even if it's not as perfect as we would like it to be. Some moments are still fun enough though, such as "diner scene" or pulling out the beacon out of his leg.

Certainly not the best movie in the world, but still quite cool (literally) and it is with Van Damme and Lundgren, Two under average actors that still have a certain attraction that is difficult to explain. A classic in its own right (that deserves a better remake with better actors).

>"You're dead soldier..."

Compared to Terminator 2, I would give this a 5. But since I am judging it on it's own as a JCVD movie and nostalgia, this is getting bumped to a 7. It is a lower budget terminator style movie and JCVD and Dolph Lundgren are great in it. Cheesy? Yeah. Is it also violent, funny and have epic scenes? Yeah! This is a JCVD classic and I am here for it!

It's not good, but it's a total guy movie. Watch it for the mindless fun.

STILL A FUN MOVIE BUT AFTER ALL THIS TIME IT'S NOT AGED WELL, DUMB FUN IF YOU WILL.
WHERE TERMINATOR 2 IS TIMELESS AND THE FAR FAR SUPERIOR MOVIE LIKE DON'T MENTION THESE 2 IN THE SAME SENTENCE.
BUT THAT BEING SAID
VAN AND DOLF WORK SO WELL TOGETHER AND THE MOVIE IS STILL ENTERTAINING AFTER OVER TWO DECADES PAST.
AND IT IS A CLASSIC
UN TO IT'S SELF.
6/10

This would have been a better film if they leaned into the cheese and silliness. The directing and scene design are weak and sparse. Van Damme acted as if this was his first time in front of the camera. Ally Walkers character was a highlight for me. The cinematography in certain scenes were fantastic. A film that could easily be rebooted or inspire some updates. I now also understand why this film showed up in bargain bins all the time at walmart growing up.

I mean, it totally makes no sense, but I suppose it kept me watching for the whole film...

With a futuristic apology, pure action cinema.
