I'm sad that I didn't watch this sooner, Margaret Qualley is magnificent and I cannot wait for the next in the trilogy.
The 2 leads are brilliant, the support throughout is good, the goons are hilarious and the cameos are fantastic.

This is not as bad as some people claim it is. A fun little flick that doesn't reinvent the wheel but it would be a lie to say that it didn't entertain me over it's pleasant 80 minutes. You can have a good time, but probably forget about it in a few weeks - but that's fine. Films like this one are needed from time to time.

Delirious and funny short comedy.

Powered by a sharp, funny script and elevated by fitting over-the-top comedic performances (particularly Margaret Qualley, who truly shines), the movie delivers plenty of laughs and entertainment. However, it fails in a few key areas: The cinematography feels disappointingly lackluster, bordering on amateurish, and the audio suffers from odd choices in certain moments. The ‘psychedelic’ segments, while perhaps aiming to recreate the dream sequences of The Big Lebowski, are completely unnecessary and only amplify the already strange editing decisions.

With this movie, it becomes clear that Ethan likely brought the absurd sense of humor to the Coen Brothers’ previous works, while Joel may have been the one who infused their films with a greater sense of lyrical finesse and visual elegance. This distinction is evident here, as the film’s comedic energy shines brightly but is let down by weaker technical execution.

Despite its flaws, the film remains a highly enjoyable watch, carried by its humor, energetic performances, and a script that thrives on its eccentricity.

Yes, it's just half of a Coen movie - but hey, that's still better than 90% of all other movies! Better one Coen than none!

'Drive-Away Dolls' is a fairly fun time.

It's a pretty straightforward movie, one that moves along at a decent pace and tells its story well enough. Margaret Qualley and Geraldine Viswanathan give good performances, Qualley overacts a bit sometimes but as the film progressed I enjoyed her more and more. The editing is something I feel similarly about, some bits aren't the best imo.

All in all, it works. The relatively short run time is a big help, admittedly.

This was like a very lesbian-ish fever dream, but in a not-bad way. Also Geraldine Viswanathan was amazing.

Performances: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Cinematography: ⭐⭐⭐
Script: ⭐⭐1/2
Music: ⭐⭐
Editing: ⭐1/2

Not bad for the lesser Coen's (sorry Ethan) first solo outing. It's easy to see, looking back, which elements of the '04-'18 Coen era were more distinctly Ethan's, or at least, less distinctly Joel's. It's therefore difficult to discern whether Dolls is set in the late 90's on accident, or because that aesthetic makes up 100% of Ethan's comfort zone. I only wish it were a little longer; it felt like the entire third act got dropped on the cutting room floor by a particularly clumsy intern

I only ranked the music so low because Carter Burwell is credited as writing the score (his unique musical style shines through during the opening scene), but most of the soundtrack is licensed music. There's nothing wrong with licensed music in a vacuum, BUT YOU'VE GOT CARTER MOTHERF**KING BURWELL SITTING IN THE CORNER WITH HIS THUMB UP HIS @$$, PUT HIS OSCAR-NOMINATED TALENTS TO USE FOR PETE'S SAKE!!!

P.S. Moments before I bought my tickets to see this, my co-worker told me they had walked out on the film the night before. I thought they were trying to tell me it was a bad movie. They weren't, and it isn't

Movie is okay. I enjoyed myself and laughed at times. Felt that the movie needed to be more chaotic for the plot. Instead the movie is very chill and relaxed for majority of the movie. It picks up a bit once the mystery is revealed but it still feels a bit tame at the same time. Definitely enjoyed it for what it was. If you enjoy movies that are random then you’ll have a good time. Might want to see it on a $5 movie day.
