The Return (2024) - ❤x7

Very good! I'm pretty sure I've seen other iterations of this part of The Odyssey storyline before and am sure this one is better than those.
The performances were solid and the dialogue felt like it might have tried to emulate some of the poetic structure of The Odyssey.
And - WOW - Fiennes is leaner and more ripped than almost all the other actors who are 30 yrs younger

Not good not really bad the story was intresting

The cinematography is unbelievable, but it's still not enough to make me 'return'. Overall, it feels like what it is. A 70s-style Italian cinema piece with a few modern iterations and a crazy good camera. The story and pace definitely and deliberately make you wait, centring you between so many strong characters. Top on characterisation, low on satisfaction. I kept waiting for it to break out the visual language, but the 2hrs ended in frustration for more. The cast won me over but to have 'Fiennes' and 'Binoche' and still feel underwhelming? You sense the obvious dedication but it barely reaches a satisfying enough level. It just makes me anticipate Nolan's rendition of 'Odysseus' even more.

A good scene here and there, and solid performances from the two leads can't save this snail pace of a movie that drudges on. I wanted to like this, I wanted this to be epic, but I found myself twiddling my thumbs scene after scene. Great movie to fall asleep to and hopefully you wake up for the last 25 minutes.

Great performances from both leads, as expected, but the movie itself felt pretty generic and amateurish.

It conveys the sense of bringing more humanity to the characters, of trying to show the story in a more realistic way by removing the elements related to the gods. But it fails to convey the torment and emotional scars of the characters, even though they are supported by two great actors who are fully committed. There is too much laxity, which is not conveyed as a way of internalizing the story and making it more intimate, but as an inability to reflect human pain. This is best achieved by Rachel Portman's austere and beautiful soundtrack.

Like a high school history lesson: flat, old fashioned, classical and easy to sleep through.

Odysseus arrives back home on Ithaca after the Trojan War and no one cares, least of all himself.

Ralph Fiennes goes full frontal, if that's something you're into. Apart from that, there wasn't much else worth watching here.

Was good, but the ending just like that? Gave it a 2 based on that.....someone want to explain that to me? I didn't get it....
