This was just poor, mostly due to the writing. The film frequently has Dot behave in odd ways [spoiler]according to her disablility, and then attempts to lay a surprise on the audience though they would have to be pretty daft to have not realised it.
She’s able to hear, and speak!
If Dot is 10 years deep into a lie, you would expect her to be able to order a milkshake without having to wait for a waitress to enumerate flavours and nodding.[/spoiler]
