As a fan of Vikings I simple had to binge this. Set 100 years later we get introduced to the next generation of mythical figures. You don't need to have watched the original to be able to get into this story, at worst you'll miss a couple "I get that reference" smirks. What is clear from the start is that this show has been produced with a little tweak to the original. Same quality sets and world building but somewhat lighter. I'd say 20% less nudity, 20% more action and the drama needs to share the spotlight with political intrigue. Looks like they have a big budget, so we see bigger battles (like the siege of Paris in the original series) as well as the skirmishes. I think it lands somewhere between the original Vikings and The last Kingdom. If you are a fan of either I can highly recommend this season.

Can somebody with Premium please update the show? There are only 8 episodes, not the 12 shown here.

Not quite as good as the first Vikings series. I thought it was a bit boring at first, but just need to persevere past the first couple of episodes.

[Updated with a change of heart]
I tried to like this series when the first season came out but couldn’t. I had been a big fan of the original VIKINGS during the Ragnar, Lagertha, Rollo and Floki seasons. (I lost interest in the seasons about the sons.) But I think my esteem for original set the bar to high to reach and I couldn’t judge it on its own merit. So, I stopped watching it after the first season. When it was announced that Amalia Holm was joining the cast in season 3, I decided to give another kick at the can. I was pleasantly surprised when I rewatched the first season on how good it was. The story telling, the characters, the performances and the beautiful settings. Even though Amalia has a very limited role, I’m so glad I had a reason to revisit this series. They call this a Historical Drama. Yes, the characters names are recorded in history, but what, and how, they did things are entirely a work of fiction. I enjoyed all the times I put the series on pause to look up the real history of the places and the characters. From the first episode to the last, I gave it a 7 (well told) out of 10.

[28 February 2022] This suffers from the same issues that took VIKINGS from a must watch series to a “Meh” - it lost its soul. When the charismatic Ragnar Lothbrok, complex Lagertha and winning Rollo exited VIKINGS, the series degenerated into uninteresting characters doing gory things. In this case, VIKINGS VALHALLA didn’t even find a soul. It doesn’t have a character worth investing in. Leif Ericsson comes off as a moody adolescent. The introduction to Freydis is promising but the role was horrible miscast and the other casting was mediocre (with the exception of Queen Emma who was a bright spot). It was basically beautiful people searching for a character. The “intrigue” was convoluted. The pseudo history was a mess. I guess you know where I’m going here, I give this series a 5 (meh) out of 10. [Historical? Fantasy? Drama]

Yeah I can't bother finishing the first episode of season 2 would probably tank through it if I rewatched the first season to remember everything but if the show was truly good you'd remember the first season

I honestly don't think this deserves another season. Some of the episodes could have been in the Viking comedy Norsemen. If Vikings had really been this pathetic then they never would have had most of Europe living in fear, they would have been lucky to make it up a river nevermind across the world's oceans.

[Netflix] Regarding "Vikings" (2013-2020), it gains in spectacularity what it loses in depth of the characters. An entertaining show that can't be expected to reveal great aspects of the era or relationships between the Vikings, and doesn't even seem too interested in exploring the arrival of Christianity in pagan lands other than as a confrontational element that, once again, fuels conflict and power struggles.

Not near as good as the original, but worth watching. They did take this shieldmaiden silliness too far.

I will always remember this show as an insult to the original one.
