Families Like Ours

In a not-too-distant future, Denmark faces total evacuation due to rising water levels. As the nation prepares to leave their homes, high school student Laura must choose between her divorced parents and the boy she's fallen in love with.
[Venice '81] Based on the premise of an environmental catastrophe that threatens Denmark's extinction, Thomas Vinterberg builds a family drama that once again takes a perspective from the relationships between the characters and their environment. Although some plots seem underdeveloped, the series has a hopeful tone about resilience and the human capacity to adapt to changes, beyond the decisions of governments. But it also abounds in lack of solidarity and chaos, managing to be an intense drama, deeply moving at times, that raises relevant reflections about a society that doesn't seem prepared for major crises.
