8/10.
Surreal as Benedict Cumberbatch’s acting is, in “Eric”, the gritty atmosphere of New York City in the 1980s is masterfully captured. Although lengthy, this show is a real gem because it interrogates deep themes.
People say it was slow but i disagree, only 6 episodes, it was boring at all.
Very captive atmosphere of the 80s, great music, The show is stolen by the charismatic cop, fantastic acting. I preferred the way things turned up a bit different than what you expect. The final episode was captivating. The narrative had a nice pacing for me.
What if we had an older man dating a younger woman showing in the bed instead of those two ?
Benedict Cumberbatch is somehow on this weird streak of playing characters who are absolute assholes. Good on him I guess.
This show was about a shitty father who loses his son after he and his wife go nuts on each other. They deserved to have their kid run off on them to give them enough trauma for Vincent and Cassie to spiral. Though little Eric didn’t deserve to go through what he had to.
Vincent totally does NOT go mental and starts seeing a giant monster who isn’t really there and who was actually created by his son. Oh well. He tries his damn hardest to bring this character to life as he struggles to deal with his missing son and starts drinking as a result. Poor Cassie. Even though she wasn’t completely sane either and did some silly things.
The characters in this show felt fleshed out and I enjoyed seeing each and every character that showed up on screen. The story was honestly very upsetting and I wanted nothing but the best for the characters.
This is good. It appears to be kind of goofy with the pupets in the promos. They don't get in the way of a dark well-told story.
Good show all around if a little slow and repetitive at times. Pretty sad so be prepared…
Well done series, great acting across the board, but the last two episodes were just weird. Very different vibe from dark to redemption, but the redemption seemed a little after school special-ish, if that makes sense. Enjoyable watch though and beautifully shot.
What a unique twist on an aging typical thriller plot about a missing kid and the race to find the body or bring the kid home. The father is a puppeteer who has some clear mental challenges and it's his crazy mind that ultimately leads to the resolution. Mixed with the social secrets of the 80's in NY like the behind the scenes LGBT community, it makes for a multiple plots within a plot show. With that said it was certainly and intriguing watch, but not so thrilling and edge of your seat as the big plot resolution was bland as the lead up was good.
The show is well done but kind of underutilized Eric as an effect on the characters. Probably half of Vincents lines could have been given to Eric and it would have been interesting if more of cast had to deal with their "personal Eric" at some point.
In the seedy underbelly of 80's New York a child goes missing on his way to school.
The main storyline is the Father's battle to find himself, face his demons and to try and find his son. Vincent is a wreck of a man with so many issues.
On the NYPD side we have corruption, murder and a Detective who will not give up in his search for the truth.
The series is unnecessarily long, and some viewers may find the pace too slow. I enjoyed it, but it really is a slow journey. 🤔:thumbsup_tone1:
This is same as Patric Melrouse. If you want great game of one front actor - here it is
