The first half grips you with its brisk pacing and clever plot — the setup of Xiao Beiming framed as the “Night Devil,” his flight, and mysterious return all build compelling momentum. However, as the story concludes, it starts dragging a bit, even if the main threads ultimately tie up neatly.

Julia Xiang (Xiang Hanzhi) impressed in Love of the Divine Tree, delivering a nuanced and emotionally rich portrayal. Here, her performance feels more restrained — likely because the series isn’t romance-centered. Still, I expected a bit more presence from her role.
Wang Xingyue brings his usual measured calm seen in Double, but his delivery feels overly reserved here — especially in scenes requiring romantic tension, where he comes across as flat rather than emotionally engaging.
