The Gifted

Fox is unwrapping another season of The Gifted.  The network announced on Thursday at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour that it has renewed the well-received Marvel drama for a second season.

OMG! loved it, too bad wasn't inhumans wasn't this good lol! I loved all the cameos and all the heroes I got to see even the ones id never id get to see on screen. The storyline and writing were really great and so looking forward to much more! Props to Amy Acker she always brings her A game!

**Save the cheerleader, save the world**

I watched this show in 2023. I only wish I had watched when it aired. More viewers could have stopped the cancellation. The series finale was so good that it makes for a great and satisfying binge. Sad that it was cancelled.

Brilliant series and I can't wait for season 3 to be released.

There is one more episode to go and it is not on until next year! What a loud pf bollocks lol. Good show tho.

-TL,DR

When you think of X-Men, you think of Xavier, you think of Storm, of Cyclops, Rogue, Wolverine.
Forget those overused mutants.

The Gifted brings you the more underestimated, underappreciated of the mutants in the Marvel Universe.

The pilot was GREAT. It had the right formula to kick of a seaons that, in my opinion will be phenomenal. (It's a tv show so it's really unpredictable).

If I got them right in the pilot we see [spoiler]Polaris, Sunspot, Thunderbird, Blink and Shatter.[/spoiler]

[spoiler]The Strucker family is new, really, but maybe there's a connection with Baron Von Strucker of hydra? We don't know.[/spoiler]

[spoiler]Also, Sunspot isn't really Sunspot but "Eclipse" an alternate version created in Days of Future Past. (Basically the same hero). Maybe done to avoid having to create an entire CGI for one hero, being that Sunspot has a... peculiar look.[/spoiler]

There's a mixture of easter eggs all over the first episode, there's a [spoiler]Stan Lee cameo[/spoiler], there's X-Men and Brotherhood name mentions, there's ringtones from the animated series. So everything a nerd needs to nerdgasm.

It is definitely worth a watch.
And if you're a fan of Marvel COMICS or just X-Men in general you won't be disappointed (at least so far).

It is clear that the FIRST EPISODE was produced by people who know what they are doing. Not like *cough*Inhumans*cough*.


-STORY-

This is basically an aftermath of the X-Men disappearing, for whatever reason. The mutants are hunted because humanity was tired of all the conflicts, the death. So we get a new federal police force called, "The Sentinels" (I know right?) and we see a kind of "Xavier's School", but more underground, so just like it was in the beginning of the X-Men story, outlawed mutants going out to discover and save new mutants that appear everyday.

Personally I think this is a great take to build up a "marvel mutant" story.

-ACTORS-

It's really early to express an opinion on the actors, but what I can say is that I have not felt any usual "fuck I hate this guy/girl" thought throughout the entire episode. The more dramatic scenes were pictured really well by the actors involved in them, everyone seems passionate about what they are doing. But I can't really get into details because I've not seen enough.

-CINEMATOGRAPHY-

I didn't enjoy the visuals as much as I could have. I can see they tried in the beginning into making scenes visually stimulating, such as slow-mo shots and nice color palettes, but then it really didn't improve. It got to a point where you aren't really amazed at what you're seeing. This isn't bad, to be clear, it's to be expected from a tv show that's divided, obviously, in episodes. But there's a whole lot of improvement that can be done. In general it's... just good.

This was a first episode concentrated in literally launching the season to the air, so I hope they will focus more on all the other aspects of what make good cinematography magical.

Special effects weren't too HARD on the picture, you can see they are really well done and well thought. All the powers we've seen so far have been produced in a well manner. There's no obivous impact on the scenes where you can say "that doesnt' belong there", which I think it's great.

Usually I don't think much about special effects, but clearly this is a show where it matters a lot. So it's important we see all of that budget money going into great effects. [spoiler]Blink's portals ARE FUCKING AMAZING.[/spoiler]

I just finished watching the first episode of this new "X-men for TV" series. Amy Acker (do yourself a favour and do a search for her on IMDB and watch her work - from Shakespeare to RomDrams - she is superb), Stephen Moyer, Emma Dumont, some good young talent, more stories from the mutant universe - this series has a great head start. I give it an 8 (great potential) out of 10 with expectations of a great series. ****Just finished the first season and it was a solid 8 (great) ou of 10. This is a show limited by budget but loaded with good storytelling and fantastic talent. The tension is ethical and philosophical but the sense of threat holds the work together.***[Action, SciFi/Fantasy, Superhero, Drama, Adventure]

It's not revolutionary TV, it's not even original which is a duh statement considering the source material and the fact we've had shows like this before (Heroes, Agents of SHIELD, Inhumans, etc.). What makes the Gifted work is the execution.

The showrunners are aware they're not original and they're not trying to overcompensate by going too far. The balance makes the show relatable to people like me who are not comic book fans but still enjoy a good show based in those worlds. Heroes fell apart in the later episodes when the showrunners went overboard, Agents of SHIELD fell apart when they went too far into the comic book realm, Inhumans were executed having taken nothing of the good the shows before it offered and went with something else. If nothing else, The Gifted washes the bitter taste the Inhumans left in my mouth, so the show has that going for it, which is nice.

If you've seen the aforementioned shows in the "genre" then you know what to expect here. Special vs normal, preconceptions, fear induced overreactions, plenty of analogies with the world we live in today. Characters felt cartoony at first but within a span of few episodes the show began carving out their personalities and quickly presented people that are interesting.

I'm adding this to my watchlist and hoping they stick with the middle ground they're on. If they don't go full comic book and don't peel too far back it'll have a good run.
