I wasn't expecting to love it this much when I first started watching. But it was just so clever, and every aspect of it, from the acting, and the direction styles, to the cinematography, and the amazing soundtrack (Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross are hard to beat), was just so beautifully and precisely crafted to serve the story. The writing in this show genuinely excellent, and often multilayered in its delivery - in particular "She Was Killed By Space Junk", and "A God Walks Into Abar" are especially magnificent.

If you aren't familiar with the Watchmen universe on some level, then it's true, you'll miss some of the references and double meanings that really elevate the show. However I do also think that it's possible to watch it without any prior knowledge, as the show throws everyone into the deep end - fans and newcomers alike, and reveals the state of the world and the characters that occupy it in small increments. If there's something that the audience needs to know, you just have to have a little patience, and a healthy dose of curiosity, and trust that the writers will reveal the necessary information at the right moment. But it's worth sticking around for.

That said, it probably won't be for everyone, and there will undoubtedly be people who find some aspects of it offensive. And that's fair enough. But I will say that while the show is often unflinching in its delivery, it rarely feels gratuitous.

It's true, I'm firmly in the contingent of those who enjoy this type of story, and I'd been looking forward to watching this for a while, but the quality of Watchmen took me by surprise (and I can be quite critical of these things). The story is peculiar (sometimes downright bizarre), and delightful, and fast paced (but then also occasionally meandering), and often unsettling. But providing you like your stories a little weird, there's plenty to stick around for, and Watchmen has some of the best writing I've ever seen in television. I can't recommend it enough.

Loved this take on Watchmen. I thought it was such a fitting both homage and sequel to the original story. It was told in such an engaging and interesting way. I absolutely loved that
Veidt gets arrested for killing all those people 20 years ago, and that Dr Manhattan's power, if it gets transferred at all, is going to a black woman. Such lovely poetic justice.
My only niggle is the character of Dr Manhattan - such an overpowered character cripples the logic of your story and creates a lot of circular loops that I find to be narratively unsatisfying.

I was _not_ prepared for this show to likely become the thing I'm most psyched about in this surrounding two years; and yet here I am, witnessing all signs pointing to the rest of the season living up to that honor.

This was _soo much **better than the poor trailer** for it originally had me expecting._ Yes, I later learned more information — that Damon Lindelof, of LOST and The Leftovers, was behind it — eventually getting me more interested; but I certainly wasn't confident, given the trailer.

This has me remembering how good the movie actually was... I kind of lost track of my memories of how intense it was and how involved it's last act was...

==Anywho, on to the real reason I had to post something.. Timepoint 59 mins and 59 seconds in the episode is what finally gave me what I was truly waiting to validate: that there was no way that the soundtrack could be so NIN without actually being **NIN / Trent Reznor / Atticus Ross.**==

10/10.

While taking a break from the emotional turmoil of real-world racial injustice, I finally sat down to binge this. The most timely story we've had in quite awhile, damn. Regina King is superb! Certainly deviates from Alan Moore's source material, and the mess that was the feature film. But the original production that is left is refreshing, historical, prescient, self-aware, and quite necessary. I enjoyed the drama and was grateful for the message. Can't believe it won't be renewed, HBO fucked up on that.

Exceptional in every way; thematically rich, aesthetically breathtaking, and emotionally devastating

Watchmen is an exceptionally good show. By default, of course, there will be fans of the comic who'll dislike it on principle. There will also be those who accuse it of pandering to a liberal PC agenda (look at the negative (and frankly, hilarious) review bombing on Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes), and there'll be those who simply don't like the idea of a Watchman TV show with a black woman at its centre. Make no mistake, however, this show has been put together by people who know, appreciate, love, and understand the comic. Thematically complex, aesthetically breathtaking, brilliantly acted, Watchmen is an exceptional piece of television.
