9-1-1: Lone Star

Nearly 20 years ago, Owen Strand was the lone survivor of his Manhattan firehouse on 9/11. In the wake of the attack, Owen had the unenviable task of rebuilding his station. After a similar tragedy happens to a firehouse in Austin, Owen, along with his troubled firefighter son, T.K., takes his progressive philosophies of life and firefighting down to Texas, where he helps them start anew. On the surface, Owen is all about big-city style and swagger, but underneath he struggles with a secret he hides from the world - one that could very well end his life.

I am going to fall in love too hard with this show. I've already cried my eyes out at least once and I'm a grown-ass man!

I think it’s such a good tv show and the actress/actors are absolutely amazing! I would highly recommend it and very much enjoy it. The stories are compelling and the characters feel genuine despite their crazy situations. There are many touching and important storylines.

It starts off well, but now that I'm close to finishing season 4, I start to see a pattern. It's even more obvious now that I'm writing about it.

Certain events are cool the first time they happen, so you don’t notice the strategy right away, but once you catch on, it starts to feel cheap and predictable. I found myself thinking, 'Watch, they’re going to be best friends after this,' way too often.

For example, there are several instances where two characters who hate each other suddenly bond after one of them, who happens to be a firefighter, saves the other in some dramatic, life-threatening situation. After that, they go from enemies to best friends in no time. This happens at least four times throughout the series.

The issue is that their personalities shift 120° too quickly, with no gradual progression or development. I get the 'Don't make war, make love' message, but it’s so repetitive that it loses its emotional weight.

That said, the voice acting is actually pretty solid.

I also appreciate that they included a gay couple, Carlos and TK, who just happens to be there like any other couple.
The problem is that every 911 call still revolves around straight couples, so they end up feeling like the odd ones out all the same.

Great drama. Cast is unbelievable. Original storylines. Stands on its own and can't wait for the new season!

Season 1 was great... good plots, strong cast... Rob Lowe and Liv Tyler made it.
First episodes of season 2... uhm, lost key characters without explanation. Corrected the show with totally PC cast, without developing the story, losing interest...

I just finished the 1st season. It was enjoyable to have a different approach to a 911 series I'm looking forward to season 2. It has potential of becoming a great series. As of Sep 23, 2020 the second season is delayed until sometime in 2021.
