One of the best movies ever.

It hurts a lot to watch it, but it also motivates to think about how selfish people are and how much rights they should have to decide over other people, even or especially over their children.

Actual Rating 8.5/10*

I definitely think that this movie is one that improves in its latter half but still isn't perfect. I don't know if it's just me but it feels like the parents came across quite abusive towards Anna in this movie, they didn't seem to care about what she was saying, that it was her own body and she didn't want to part with any of her organs. The parents then made it out like she was being selfish which, I understand that they are hurting because the older sister is dying of cancer, but this isn't something you should be telling your child.

Now the movie did improve in it's second half and was quite emotional, which was handled really well by all the cast members. I will admit that I am ever so slightly bitter that they changed it from the original ending where Anna is actually the one who dies as I feel like that book ending gives out more of a message whereas the ending to the film gave out an air of predictability. Having said all that though the film's subject is handled really well by all cast, including Abigail Breslin, who I was pleasantly surprised at, and it is still a halfway decent film with a very difficult subject matter.

I am not a big fan of the sappy tearjerkers, but I am happy to have finally gotten around to this one. I probably will not watch it again, but it is undoubtedly a solid film with a good story.

I read the book a couple times before watching the movie so maybe that influences my opinion. Acting was subpar and a bit cringey at times for me, as harsh of a word that might be. Did like watching the movie, but reading the book beforehand probably spoiled my experience with the movie. Good book to make a movie on, I think the director could’ve done a better job adapting the book to a movie and challenging the actors more. Not a bad movie if watching by itself bc it discusses a lot of potential ethical issues.

Awesome storyline, but I guess the sound was too feeble #ShiftvW8
