[7.25/10] As a longtime fan of _Repo! The Genetic Opera_, I figured _The Devil’s Carnival_ would be worth a watch—and I was right! While I didn’t love it quite as much as _Repo_, that could definitely change with a few more viewings. I actually thought the singing and overall song quality felt more polished here overall. I think this film could have really excelled as a live stage performance actually. I personally would have loved to see that!
I thoroughly enjoyed the performances, and the makeup and costumes were fantastic. The concept was strong, but the actual story felt a bit incomplete. The ending was somewhat abrupt, too—not necessarily wrong for the story, but it lacked any sort of comedown. An extra 30 minutes might have helped. I appreciated the additional performance during the credits!
I’d definitely recommend this to certain people, and I’m curious to revisit it in the future. I’ll absolutely check out the sequel!
