Oh, this was just a delight to watch. Definitely a good watch for anyone interested in horror media history. I loved getting more info about the origins of the video game, and the tumultuous path it took to get picked up in movie format. It demonstrated well the tension between artistic vision and corporate control, because who would know better how a zombie film is supposed to feel than the godfather of the genre? While I would definitely would have preferred his version, what did make it into theaters spawned a large franchise that is still relevant now, so I can kind of see both sides of this.

This film relies mostly on recapping Romero's career, interviewing mostly curators of his foundation, and relaying information that isnt elsewhere. As a resident evil fan, it was easy enough to play in the background. For future generations, I guess this is a comprehensive expo on a "what could have been moment" while being a history lesson about the director and the video games series.

Too bad we didn't get the original Resident Evil adaptation by George Romero, maybe in another universe. The original vision by George is closer to the games, RE is a household name by now, the movies we got were more action oriented and is loosely based. I watch Night of the Living Dead every now and then, it's a classic that will be enjoyed by old and new generations. Being a big RE fan, I've played most of the games, and I've always felt Romero's atmosphere/feel through the games. The RE2 Live-Action commercial by Romero was better than all of the RE movies we got, seems like we're getting another RE movie and series, will be a miracle if they're good. If you're a fan of RE or Romero's works than this will be up your alley.

The actual subject of the documentary is dealt with in the last quarter, more or less as an illustrated (with game parts) script reading. The rest in no way justifies the running time of almost 2 hours. It's not clear to me how they came up with the idea of making a documentary about something that was actually just an unofficial script.
