I thought X was ok, Pearl I found kinda boring, Maxxxine is the perfect ending to the trilogy and easily the better of the 3 movies imo.
I was very impressed with the cast and almost all of the performances, although I was left feeling that there may have been more to the character of Leon that may have been left on the cutting room floor as the editing around all of his scenes seemed pressured.
Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed Maxxxine !
the development of this trilogy is top tier, although i do wish more had been given on pearl x maxine, but i do appreciate the ominous vibe to it all. maxine on top 4L
it is a amazing film I saw, people saying they hate the third act but I loved it
dont watch if gore is not your thing
Definitely the creepiest movie of the trilogy and my personal favorite of the trilogy.
Finally, we're getting our grand finale for Ti West's X Trilogy, and I was so fortunate to see the premiere with a Q&A with the man himself! This was very interesting because he shared some insights about the whole journey to get these movies made and what he wanted to achieve.
For me, it's kinda hard not to be biased about MaXXXine because I just love Pearl so much. It is one of the best movies in recent years and jumped instantly into my top horror movies of all time. Mia Goth's performance paired with the style of the movie is just perfect. It's my Roman Empire.
MaXXXine is certainly different from Pearl and X, just as Pearl is different from X. Not only the whole vibe, but also how it all plays out. But I feel that adapts to the era, since everything moves faster each day. We're now getting a thrilleresque and gritty look into the void of Hollywood and how Maxine Minx will fight through it. Whatever it takes. I am not a big sucker for the 80s vibe since there is so much stuff out there about this period, and I feel some things could have been a little bit different. But it kinda it what makes the whole trilogy so special. Instead of recycling the same thing over and over again, like many other franchises do, we have three distinct movies which are still connected. Same-same, but different. I am excited to revisit all of these movies on a regular basis.
Overall, I had a blast watching MaXXXine. Loved the soundtrack, the nods to the other movies, the devotion to detail in everything, the gore and all the crazy performances.
And Mia Goth.
_"Y'all might as well go home, 'cause I just fucking nailed that!"_
Yes, girl, you fucking did! (And you too, sir!)
The capper on a unique horror trilogy, and I feel it successfully does what it wants to do. It likely won't be for everyone, but I quite enjoyed it. "X" still remains my favorite of the trilogy, and Pearl/MaXXXine are about as good for different reasons. I will undoubtedly watch all three of these again sooner than later.
Rating: 3.5/5 - 80% - Would Recommend
With "MaXXXine," Ti West's "X" trilogy has firmly established itself in the "must see" category. After all, the conclusion of the series is once again thoroughly entertaining. I find it particularly fascinating how West has managed to give each film its own identity. This time, the movie is not only set in the mid-1980s but also looks, for the most part, as if it were a flick from that era. As usual for the director, the movie is extremely stylish.
Thematically, however, it does get a little carried away. It's a wild mix of slasher, exploitation film, and Hollywood satire. Sometimes I found the focus a little lacking. However, as Mia Goth is still particularly strong in the lead role, this can be overlooked. She obviously overdid it a bit with the method acting in real life, but in the finished product, her Maxine is still a force to be reckoned with.
You can also tell from the rest of the cast that there was clearly a lot more budget available this time. The ensemble is certainly impressive, with Kevin Bacon as a sleazy private detective and Giancarlo Esposito as a questionable Hollywood agent being particularly noteworthy.
The question remains as to where I would place the movie in the overall trilogy. And the answer is that "Pearl" is still my clear favorite, but "MaXXXine" is definitely ahead of "X." The movie is varied in its locations, suspenseful, and never boring for a second. That's why I strongly recommend it. I wouldn't mind Maxine returning in a few years' time.
A lot of bad reviews. I found it to be a solid and very entertaining film. Sets and acting are good as is the plot. Have not seen the first two but will go back and watch them.
>"Mass is ended. Put your hands up!"
Probably the worst of the trilogy; still a lot of fun. The story never really comes together, but man if I don't love the 80s of it all. Kevin Bacon hamming it up (pun intended) had me cracking up every time. Mia Goth you will always be famous.
>"The past ain't finished with you, Maxine. It's gonna keep knocking at your door until you open up and let it in."
pretty underwhelming ngl I wish they could’ve developed the characters and the story a bit more
