"They're coming to get you, Barbara."

This film has such a slowly builds up for the first 45 minutes and then after they watched the news on the television, it gets in your face. That scene with Karen and her Mother is amazing, Ben (Duane Jones) is a great lead! All the stuff that started here like boarding up houses with stuff you can find, the way zombies are killed, how they act, it all started here to my knowledge.

So much has been said about this one that I know that I can't do it justice one bit. And everyone can watch it! It is even in its entirely on Wikipedia! So no one has an excuse to not watch George A. Romero's debut!

It also really, really, really, holds up well. The black and white helps, it has a great soundtrack and even for its time, the gore is great. Man, it was such a blast revisiting this one!

Thank you George A. Romero! For such an influential film!

No matter how old the visuals look, this masterpiece will forever be a classic. A founding pillar in horror cinema and a reminder of the world we're in. It's more realistic than you'd think the terror is real. The low budget shows and it has it's slow moments but it's perfect on all other accounts and the horror is so effective. What an ending!!

I'll never get over how brilliant and innovative this film is. Just the legacy and influence the thing has had is a testament to classic status. The man created a genre for God's sake! One that's still extremely popular to this day. It's amazing how effective it still is though.

Holds up very well! It’s simple and elegant, so it’s quite an achievement that it manages to be as memorable as it is. It’s really well directed and the acting is well above average, especially compared to other films from around the time. The characters are interesting and you care about them emotionally. Even some of the aspects you expect to be the most dated (like pacing and make up) hold up pretty well. I also really appreciate the subtext, some of the most interesting aspects of this film don’t even deal with the zombies.

9/10

This is a classic for a reason. And given that most of the cast really didn't do much after this, it wasn't spectacular acting. It was the story. It was the directing. It was boffo ending that's a gut punch to the spleen. Sit back and enjoy unrelenting horror. Bust up the furniture and hope for the best.

I was no noob to Horror[1], but this...! I turned it off **five** times, and slept _hiding under my cot._
OK, I _was_ just nine!

Plus several other B-flick shows I'd watch all night until the stations went off the air, and test patterns ruled the airwaves.

The original zombie movie. However it isn't the zombies that are the main focus, it is the portrayal of man's adaptation to the threat of the undead that takes center stage. Each character has their own role (the leader, the scared, the hopeful, etc) and it is this that carries the movie
through to it's unlikely conclusion
. A must-see film regardless of whether you're a fan of the genre or not.
