The Colors Within

Totsuko is a high school student with the ability to see the 'colors' of others. Colors of bliss, excitement, and serenity, plus a color she treasures as her favorite. Kimi, a classmate at her school, gives off the most beautiful color of all. Although she doesn't play an instrument, Totsuko forms a band with Kimi and Rui, a quiet music enthusiast they meet at a used bookstore in a far corner of town. As they practice at an old church on a remote island, music brings them together, forming friendships and stirring affections.

After the credits rolled, I so greatly desired to be transported back into this serene and cozy world I'd just left. This coming-of-age movie is so earnest, and I love each character.
I love Kimi's journey in accepting the choices she made. I love Rui's genuine excitement and joy he finds in his new friends, and the courage he gains from them. And of course, I love Totsuko for being a pure cinnamon roll whose bubbly personality is infectious, but I also love her being able to finally express herself without worry of being called weird for it.
If you've watched any band anime before, this isn't your typical band anime. It's light, refreshing, and a bit flowy, and I loved seeing each character progress. Plus, the performance at the end was stunning.
