The Watcher

FBI agent Joel Campbell, burnt-out and shell-shocked after years spent chasing serial killers, flees L.A. to begin a new life for himself in Chicago. But five months later, Joel's best laid plans are abruptly cut short when his new hometown becomes the setting for some particularly gruesome murders--murders that could only have been committed by one man: David Allen Griffin. One of Joel's most elusive and cunning nemeses, Griffin has followed his former pursuer to Chicago in order to play a sadistic game of cat and mouse. Taunting Joel with photographs of his intended victims and leaving his crime scenes meticulously free of clues in order to keep the police at bay, Griffin derives as much pleasure out of watching Joel react to every movement as watching his victims die. But when Griffin moves into Joel's inner circle, Joel must quickly find some way to stop him before someone close to him becomes the next one to die.

An initial approach that falls apart in the typical Thriller ending.

The movie got 10% good reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Some how my cable box giving the Watcher ***. Made me realize that the movie is actually not that bad.
I mean Keanu Reeves is totally miscast as a serial killer and his kill scenes are just goofy looking. However, James Spader and Marisa Tomei are always reliable. To some how make bad movies watchable.
Spader is great in this movie and I can't think of a movie where he wasn't fun to watch. Yes, Stargate and Super Nova as well. Wolf is even less boring when it was revealed that he too was bit by a werewolf.

i watched this movie earlier but i remembered that it was not so good. now i watched it again wow i mean the visual effects, the cuts, the music are so pathetic and funny. im so sorry but the director the script and keanu are on the same level. level that is so terrible that is actually pretty enjoyable. this movie desperatelly trying to be cool and scary.

I'm not that big a fan of Keanu Reeves but even so, this has to be one of the worst movies he has been in, and for James Spader, I can't remember him from any of the movies/series I watched besides balcklist so I can't say and Chris Ellis I think i remember him in Ep1 of CIS:NY and con air.

This is the movie Keanu Reeves claimed he only did because “a friend” forged his signature on the agreement and he thought making it was preferable to a lawsuit.

He’s right to be ashamed, this is bottom of the barrel ‘90s serial killer trash leaking into the ‘00s. Michael Chapman’s cinematography is drowned in post effects that seem determined to make it look likes Wong Kar-wai movie. But even Wong was never self-indulgent enough to use step printing in every scene.

It has curiosity value for James Spader, Marisa Tomei & Reeves, all miscast against type, and for the absurd efforts it goes to trying to make exposition more interesting. Maybe the worst CGI explosions I’ve ever seen in a Hollywood movie with proper stars.

I do not recommend it.

My goodness. That was truly horrible...and not in a good way.

I mean, there's the kind of film with a really good story, a decent script, passable acting and acceptable direction, but all the technical stuff is just horrible. You take it for what it's worth, figure they just didn't have the money and enjoy it because it tells a good story.

Well, this was was not that kind of movie at all. In fact it was the polar opposite. The crew on the set did their jobs and checked all the technical boxes just fine, but everything else sucked ass. The worst story ever. The script/dialogue was atrocious. The actors were doing their best to imagine themselves somewhere else doing anything else but making this horrible movie. And the director....wow...just wow...useless. I didn't pay a dime to watch this movie and I still think that guy owes me a refund.
