I watched the Dr Sapirstein Alternate cut. A much tighter story in the vein of the original and converted to black & white. it really works. Try and track down a copy.

Some of the acting was bad. The part when Guy was making Mia eat a small amount of food like it was sadistic abuse, that was completely ridiculous. The scenes in this movie are really flat. Another example is the poison scene. It's slow enough and then at the end Guy suddenly comes back to life. Why bother? It doesn't add anything. Now we have to wait for him to die again. The whole tone is like a cheap erotic thriller, even down to the bad music. It soon becomes tedious. The two main characters are dull.
