This film along with Das Boot really lays out well the unfathomable suffering these boys had to go through for a good cause. Misery in its purest form, conditions like these could and would break the hardest and toughest of men

Absolutely brutal fictionalised version of the events in Stalingrad in the early 1940s, where over a million people were killed in the war, starved or froze to death. Not for the squeamish.

my only drawback with this movie was the action quality, but if you came for the narrative it is a rare gem.

This isn't a war movie it's a movie about war. What it does to and with people. How soldiers are used, betrayed and lied to.

But be aware because this isn't shiny hollywood-like war. No, this is gritty and dirty - it shows the futility of war not the heroics.
