The Family

After ratting out his Mafia cohorts, Giovanni Manzoni and his family enter the Witness Protection Program and relocate to a sleepy town in France. Despite the best efforts of their handler to keep them in line, Giovanni (now called Fred Blake), his wife and children can't help but resort to doing things the "family" way. However, their dependence on such old habits places everyone in danger from vengeful mobsters.

I very much enjoyed this movie. Sure, from the cast and director you can maybe hope to be able to expect more, but I thought it was good fun.

I'm working my way through some of Michelle Pfeiffer's filmography. This one is a great spoof on the gangster movies of the 70s-90s. Lots of fun. Both Michelle and Robert De Niro easily fall into roles they play effortlessly and De Niro takes us back to all the Scorsese films In which he cut his acting teeth. Accolades to Dianna Agron who brings a psychopathic light to her innocent character, and John D'Leo who is a convincing clever little hooligan. Great watch that doesn't take itself very seriously. I give this an 8 (great) out of 10. People who had expectations of this as anything but a comedy, came to see the wrong film, and consequently they were disappointed. [Comedy, Action, PseudoCrime]

Fun mafia movie that is an enjoyable watch. By no means is this a classic. Not intended to be one. But the director knowing that, its better, by playing into the characters and acting being what drives the story into the plot. Actual character consistency (sorely lacking these days) and personable; in the best ways mafia movies can have characters. Touching on the authentic, the zany, and by no means was there some dull stretch. I appreciate the many kept sentiments for the genre and did not disappoint or disrespect the classics. People who dont like this movie baffle me- either as movie watchers who dont like mafia movies.... which ok, sure, no one is perfect. Yet, I think the fact this was subtly pro american definitely got someone just frizzied up into leaving negative ratings.
Fun movie. Not a classic, but these days, might as well win the oscar. Good time for the good old boys and wise guys genre.
Will keep these next on the playlist; Casino, Goodfellas, The Family.

There wasn't any new ground covered in this film, and it might have been interesting enough had it not been for the tonality issues. It begins as an action/comedy, almost a black comedy, but it then completely switches gears into this serious, dramatic film that misses the mark. It really didn't make any sense, and they would've been better off keeping the lighter tone throughout.

I absolutely love mob films but the reviews for this one weren't the best. Anyway I really wanted to check it.

The Family should have been a comedy but instead of it I think this film worked better in the more serious moments than in the ones where is suppose to laugh. No doubt that the concept is great and the cast too, it was good to see Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer acting together but the plot is weak.

Although, I didn't found it as terrible as everyone says. In my opinion is just another film to entertain with nothing major to reveal. It was just okay.

The only thing worth watching about this is Dianna Agron beating people up. I loled. The rest is forgettable.
