Like Jeeves & Wooster, but women, and with the felicity of unbounded domesticity.

I rather enjoyed watching this movie as the story is really relatable. It was great to see so many good actors perform and the acting was quite good, even if some were still quite young.
The beginning was not too easy to follow and I was surprised by the scene intros but it was well made especially for an old movie like this. I'm especially pleased with the ending.

I think one of the laziest critiques of a movie is to say that "nothing happens in the movie". In general that phrase is meant to say that nothing _obvious_ happens. I've loved a ton of movies where "nothing happens", because what really happened wasn't meant to be something consumed near the surface. There is a thought or a theme that the movie is trying to get across and it asks the viewer to work a little bit to get the reward. In this movie not only does nothing happen, I can also say that nothing _interesting_ happens. There is an effort to discuss class but this seems kind of secondary to seeing the characters shuffle through one scene after another. Maybe I just wasn't meant to watch period pieces - I thought the same thing of Barry Lyndon (although that movie was worlds better than this one). The only reason my rating wasn't worse is because of the fantastic acting that was done with this lousy script. I can't believe that this is considered to be an all-time great movie.
