Mission in Taipei is a film that effectively mixes action, suspense and intense emotions, taking us on an explosive journey through the streets of Taiwan. Available on Movistar Plus, this film stands out for its high-impact sequences and a narrative full of tension and dramatic twists.

The plot follows John Lawlor (@thereallukeevans), a DEA agent whose obsession with his job led him to an unexpected destination alongside Joey Kang (@lunmei), a brilliant underground driver from Taipei. Fifteen years after a past that marked both of them, their paths cross again in a weekend full of action and revelations that will change their lives forever.

The performances are a fundamental pillar of the film. Luke Evans brings intensity and vulnerability to his role, while Lun-Mei Gwei dazzles with a performance full of strength and charisma. The chemistry between both actors is palpable and raises the emotional weight of the story.

From car chases to adrenaline-filled showdowns, the film's pace keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. While some plot elements can be predictable, the well-executed twists and constant tension make up for it. Plus, the use of Taipei's vibrant urban settings lends a visual authenticity that enriches the experience.

Mission to Taipei is more than just an action thriller; it's a story of redemption, second chances, and decisions that leave indelible marks. A must-see for genre lovers looking for something with depth and emotion.

What would you do if your past came back to test your limits?

I almost didn't watch this as the trailer didn't make this look good but it's well done. It's action with a touch of comedy. Well worth the watch. I recommend to everyone to watch this. I only watched this as I saw the part where
Gwei was driving the ferrari with the car salesman
.

A good, fun, action film with light relief thrown in. You can definitely see the Luc Besson influence in the script - which to me is never a bad thing, and didn't realise his involvement before the start titles.
Also, good to see a bad guy who has some actual depth and motivations beyond "be evil".

About halfway through, I was pretty let down by the fact that the trailer was a bit misleading with the amount of driving and car sequences in this movie. It seemed like that was a central theme from the trailer that I watched, but there's really only the one scene in the first 15 minutes and then another towards the last 30 minutes with the off-road vehicle.

At the end of this I was teetering on what to rate it, between a 6 or a 7, but I really enjoyed the female lead playing Joey, so I'll err on the higher end of those two.

Definitely a few funny moments, Joey and her son were both really good, but this is a B-level action movie at best.

Weekend in Taipei (2024) - ❤x6

LOL - bullets flying everywhere and they can't hit the guy??
Aside from that little bit of fun action fantasy - this is an okay actioner, nothing special about it but fun to watch and the romance was kind of nice.

How I rate:
1-3 ❤ = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6 ❤ = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8 ❤ = I expect you will like this too
9-10 ❤ = movies and TV shows I really love!

Hmm, I was in thoughts during half of the movie and just listened to it a bit with one ear.
Still I understood everything. Great movie if you don't want to think at all and just want something easy with mediocre acting and a mediocre story.
Although I really liked the shooting location.

It went a bit too dull midway through the movie, but in the end, we learnt that the dude's pull out game is horrible.

After the opening credits with all the various film studios it goes downhill from there. Bad writing and even worse acting. Got to 13 minutes..way too long
