It was a good movie, lots of action and Kevin James ?! Who could ask for more?
For those who don't understand the purpose of a film is to entertained and amazed the audience, they would rate this film low. Those who understand will rank this film high 9r vwry high.
Why and how? Because of star values, the who don't understand will choose Back in Action very high because that film has Cameron Diaz and Jamie Fox, but I rated that film low because it failed to entertain me and don't even amazed me. Back in Action was not even making any sense and made me my brain more stupid when I watched it the 2nd time.
It's similar film but Guns Up had a different result. Story-wise, it's very funny, not funny ha ha, but funny intellectually. And acting-wise, Guns Up won a lot more points.
The best way to rate how good a film is to rewatch it for the 2nd time. If it stays good or if it gets better, you'll know that film is very good. I've rewatched Guns Up the next day and found it better than my the firat time I watched it.
Kevin James in real life is a serious black belt Judoka and that said a lot considering he is a big man. Look at his shoulder carefully, his arms and shoulder are not flabby, those are strengthened and exercised muscles. That's he could do fight acenes convincingly while looking at ease with himself coz he didn't show signs of fatigue commonly a sign of obesity.
As a comedian, James almost never threw a smile throughout Guns Up. His face was stucked in either "I'll regret this later" expression or "what did I do to deaerve this?" facial expression. And that's effing funny. You made a choice in your life, he became the best for good result, he lived a double life and constantly worried he would ruin his family's lives. What's the funny part? Because that makes sense. He's very efficient and if his family found out, he would ruin their lives Ironically funny because what he found out from the events throughout the film.
Never, ever underestimated or underrated Christina Ricci. This actress was probably the most experienced actor in this film. She personified a homely wife who's good at taking care of her husband, their children, their home and she always smiled cheerfully. Let's just summarized Ricci's character with a quotation from her acting daughter: "I think Dad married to John Wick."
And then the children. Their lines were annoying and triggering mix emotions of sad, angry, proud and worry. If you're a parent, that's how your kid drove you to insanity filled with love.
Guns Up got better the second time I rewatched it. That's why I rated it very high and highly recommend this film.
Was thinking what a complete waste of Christina Ricci... Then it wasn't! Kevin James and Luis Guzman were awesome, very fun film
Is it just me or does the following line from the movie sum up how you feel after finishing it.
"I'm just processing a lot right now and you're being a little aggressive."
Arguably the best line from the movie. I totally was right there with Ray during those scenes. Like how did I miss the signs? There were signs, right?
Him just watching her go to town on those guys after her identity was revealed. Wow.
Not the best movie in it's genre but much better than it probably has a right to be.
Guns Up walks a fine line between carnage and comedy and pulls it off with a crooked grin. It has the slick gunplay of John Wick and the everyman grit of Nobody, but it never forgets to have fun. Kevin James stars as Ray Hayes, a debt collector trying to break free from his past. He’s rough around the edges, soft at the core, and unexpectedly convincing in the action scenes.
Cristina Ricci plays Alice, Ray’s partner at home and in spirit. She isn’t just there for background. Her performance brings a quiet steadiness that grounds the chaos.
The supporting cast hit familiar beats. Old crew, new threat, plenty of snarling. But they know what kind of film they’re in and play it just right. The action is sharp, the pacing brisk, and the script has just enough wit to lift it above the usual streaming fodder.
It’s not trying to change the genre. It just wants you to enjoy the ride.
If you liked…
Nobody, John Wick, The Hitman’s Bodyguard, or a surprisingly solid Kevin James shootout flick.
A bit of fun, nothing special. Good twist when Alice reveals who she really is. 👍
Not a bad movie. Has funny moments. I enjoyed it. Yeah you can WATCH IT. No regrets.
I like Kevin James, but this movie is weird. It starts off kind of interesting, with a bit of drama, but by the end, it shifts into a John Wick-like comedy action film. The more you watch, the more it becomes a modern cliché, adding some woke elements. Suddenly, there’s a super cool and strong 45kg woman who kills everyone with ease, making Kevin James's character look stupid in comparison.
People are killed just like that, yet the movie somehow tries to frame it as about protecting family, which supposedly justifies everything because the character has some sort of "code." Weak sauce, unfortunately.
Meh. Not bad, but not as good as some of the others in its genre. It's like a bad blend up of "John Wick", "Nobody", and "Paul Blart", but I think it's aware because you can feel the "John Wick" joke coming from a mile. I will say though, the plot twist did get me, and it was easily my favourite part seeing it play out. Otherwise, I'd probably watch the sequel, but by the time it happens, I'll also probably forget this.
For a movie with Title Guns Up, not one person Reloaded.
