The psychological thriller Don’t Say a Word is an impressive and intense film that’s smart and well-crafted. The story follows a preeminent psychiatrist that must get a 6 digit number from a mental patient in order to save his daughter who’s been kidnapped and is being held hostage. The casting is phenomenal, and includes Michael Douglas, Brittany Murphy, Sean Bean, and Jennifer Esposito. Douglas is in top form and Murphy gives an inspired performance that nearly steals the film. Additionally, the directing is quite good and does an excellent job at building suspense and intrigue as the plot unfolds. There are a few weaknesses in the storytelling, but overall Don’t Say a Word is a captivating and powerful film.

Had the DVD on the shelve for a long time because I somehow thought I had already watched it. When I finally put it in my player, I was in for a pleasant surprise: not only did I not know the story, but I really enjoyed the movie. The beginning and the middle part I found intriguing and very good. Only the ending was a little predictable
because when doctor Conrad and his daughter Jesdie as well as his patiant Elisabethe are on the island in the end, he has absolutely no means to escape or defend himself and the girls, but it is always clear that they survive, meaning in turn that they have to be saved by the police
. But overall I was very glad that I watched it and cannot quite understand the low rating here on Trakt. But I guess tastes are diverse...

Decent thriller. Solid performances. Nothing groundbreaking. Brittany Murphy tries her best but her character is still a plot device hitting the traumatized beats. As part of my Lance Reddick watch, he has a bit part, but he’s charming enough to make a line that shouldn’t work pretty funny through his delivery alone. And a nice bit of acting and directing is when he’s watching the two doctors from the background, and you wonder why is he interested? Is he in on it? Or is it just his job?

Such a shame we didn't get more from Brittany Murphy. She was so talented.
