A great movie, with a great story, with a great actor as the main character is the easiest way to describe this feature film.
The first time I saw it, I didn't know how great its meaning could be. The fact of going down to hell just to rescue the person you love, I had no idea of the enormous sacrifice that would mean. Now that I am old enough to understand what this film wants to convey, I can say that it is a great movie to share with your partner. not to mention that the ending gives me hope that even in the next life I will be with my true love

***life after death?***

Excellent movie.....I laughed and cried. It was not exactly what I expected... a journey into a supernatural realm. The special effects were simply awesome! Robin Williams will never cease to amaze me. He gave a wonderful performance, as did Annabella Sciora, and Cuba Gooding, Jr. True love, the kind that puts your partner before yourself, is clearly shown in this film. The film also makes you what to call everyone you haven't talked to for a while and let them know how you feel about them. It gives the viewer lots to discuss.

"Dreams are what we live for they make us alive, and that we are a part of a human race- " Robin William's (RIP)

[7/10] I seem to recall watching this once before, but on this viewing, I remembered nothing—so I’m not entirely sure if I actually had seen it. Either way, I really liked it. Robin Williams was fine in the role, and I’m a huge fan of his, but part of me wishes someone else had played the lead.

Visually, I think the film is very captivating, and I especially appreciated its depiction of Hell. It felt like such an unnatural place for any conscious being to exist. I enjoy existential reflection from time to time, and this film provided a great opportunity for it. I really connected with the perspective that there is always hope for transformation, for something greater beyond all its parts, even through tragedy or any sense of finality.

This is the kind of work that makes me love film—not necessarily because it’s the best or even my favorite movie, but because it shows us things we will never experience in life. Honestly, if I ever made a movie, I imagine it would feel something like this.

Equal parts drama, romance, and fantasy. _What Dreams May Come_ is my favorite of Williams' more serious roles. Almost ten years after _Dead Poets Society_ (1989), he really shines in a part that allowed him to show his depth as an actor.
The story itself deals with love and loss. The visuals - and this is a very visual movie - are very vibrant; parts of which are literally pantings come to life.
The "spiritual" themes in the movie don't really land for me, but your milage may vary. The subject matter is vague enough to not fully alienate anyone, I suppose. There is mention of a deity, but it is merely mentioned in passing. I prefer to watch this as strictly as a metaphor for pulling through life's struggles. The wishful thinking, not so much. If we are to have fantasy, its home is in movies, to be sure.
Even though the movie deals with heavy subjects: death, suicide, grief; It keeps an optimistic tone. What always drew me to the movie is the idea of having a love so special, that you would go to Hell for this person. What can I say? The romantic in me just won't die, no matter how much he wants to.
I would recommend this to fans of romance movies, but keep in mind, there is a thick coat of fantasy here. If you like Greek mythology, renaissance art, and Robin Williams at his most earnest, this is for you.

Based on a story by Richard Matheson, What Dreams May Come is a surrealist tale of the afterlife. When Dr. Chris Nielsen dies in a car crash an old friend comes to guide him through the afterlife, but when Chris learns that his wife has committed suicide and is in Hell, he risks everything to find her. Featuring Robin Williams, Annabella Sciorra, Cuba Gooding Jr., and Max von Sydow, the casting is quite good. Additionally, the visual style is extraordinary, and looks like Renaissance paintings come to life. However, the storytelling is weak, and lacks subtlety and character development. Still, even with its flaws What Dreams May Come is an incredibly creative film that presents a fascinating vision of the spirit world.
