Fear Below

My next shark movie for the week was this surprising gem. It’s nice when we get competent shark movies. This was solidly directed. The script is pretty straightforward and simple but that’s okay. It’s a simple premise and doesn't try and do too much. The performances are all pretty good. I really liked Hermione Corfield in particular. Her character was great and her performance was solid and believable. I liked that they gave us a story besides just the shark attacking people. It doesn’t overstay its welcome. It’s straight to the point and never bored me. The shark looked decent enough. I dug the setting. I like that they tried something a bit different and it worked well. All in all this was a pretty solid shark movie, especially by today’s standard.

The presentation sells this title as a creature feature, but that is not the focus of the narrative, which almost plays out as a crime thriller. That isn't to say the ride is unpleasant—just don’t go into this expecting Jaws or Deep Blue Sea, or a horror film.

It struggles with weak direction.The poor budget haunts every frame.There are zero surprises in this predictable plot.

This bad shark movie has decent acting, an okay story, and it doesn't look too cheap. But the most important part is the sharks, and it should either be scary or goofy. This is neither, your grandma wouldn't be scared and the effects and kills barely register.
