The Painted Veil

The score is so exceptionally good and magical that it is half the movie. Without the score the movie wouldn't be as good.

I realized right from the first few minutes that I'm completely transported thanks to the score.

I see this movie by accident when I was browsing a lot of channels late at night. It was great. The end tells us that we should care about the people who care about us. they are the most important ones.

I wasn't going into this movie with the highest of expectations given it was from a genre I rarely enjoy, but it pleasantly surprised me. I disliked the character of the wife at first, as she came across as extremely arrogant and entitled but we soon saw a humble, even kind side revealed amongst the turmoil in a tiny Chinese village riddled with cholera. It was heart warming watching their relationship slowly and painfully rememerge from the ashes, to see her finally respect and appreciate the kind and forgiving character of her husband. A true love story; where you've to overcome countless hurtles and doubts, to actively choose to continuosly stand by and nurture your relationship.

Everything was fine in that movie. But I don't really enjoy movies which shows suffering from a epidemic or a war, also "the end of the world" kind of movies. I watched the movie just for the tragedic romance genre. It didn't disappoint me entirely but as I said I don't crave for this type of plot. It reminded me of 'Hacksaw Ridge' which was also a great movie but the war/ outbreak stories doesn't intrigue me much. Overall it was not a bad movie to watch.

I found the movie slow. Its pace didn't quite interested me. Maybe it was because the script seems to miss a conductor thread. The acting is good and the plot is OK but the rhythm... I tried to enjoy it but it was difficult.

She is now neither empty nor confused, and calmly reported goodbye with a smile.
