Die Hard 2

One year after his heroics in Los Angeles, John McClane is an off-duty cop who is the wrong guy in the wrong place at the wrong time. On a snowy Christmas Eve, as he waits for his wife's plane to land at Washington Dulles International Airport, terrorists take over the air traffic control system in a plot to free a South American army general and drug smuggler being flown into the US to face drug charges. It's now up to McClane to take on the terrorists, while coping with an inept airport police chief, an uncooperative anti-terrorist squad, and the life of his wife and everyone else trapped in planes circling overhead.

Hey if you think about it, this is the only Die Hard that didn't have him trying to make up with a family member. I give it points for that. Bruce Willis is also a bad ass.

“How can the same sh** happen to the same guy twice?” Right?! Die Hard 2 suffers (as so many films do) from the sequel syndrome: more of the same, and bigger. John McClane finds himself facing off with terrorists once again when a rogue military group takes control of the Dulles International Airport and holds the planes hostage, including the plane his wife is on. Unfortunately the film just tries too hard and comes up short; unable to meet the high bar set by the original. And as a result, it’s overstuffed with McClane tossing out jokes and quips left and right like a one-man comedy show, and three main villains involved in an overly complex terrorist plot. However, director Renny Harlin brings the action with some spectacular sequences. While Die Hard 2 has its problem, it’s still an exciting, action-packed adventure that’s extremely entertaining.

Not sure how Roger Ebert didn't like the first film but absolutely loved this one. However this movie was pretty good. Just nowhere near better than the first.
This is definitely a thrilling ride when you’re bored though.

The film is packed with memorable moments, iconic one-liners, and adrenaline-pumping sequences that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The snowy airport setting adds an extra layer of tension to the already high-stakes situation, making for a truly gripping viewing experience.
If you're a fan of action movies, "Die Hard 2" is a must-watch. It's a perfect blend of thrills, humor, and heart-pounding excitement that will leave you thoroughly entertained. So grab some popcorn, buckle up, and get ready for an action-packed ride with John McClane in "Die Hard 2"!

>*"Just once i'd like a regular, normal Christmas... eggnog, a fucking Christmas tree, a little turkey... but, no, I got to crawl around in this motherfucking tin can."*

Nothing could ever beat the original but ***Die Harder*** is a great follow up and it's better than your average action movie for sure. It's a little less of a Christmas movie but there's a ton of snow. The stakes are higher this time, there's a lot more lives on the line including McClane's wife, which make McClane more desperate in a way and that's interesting.

They once again created some interesting new characters and storylines, I even liked Holly's storyline on the plane. John Amos as Major Grant was a standout as well and even Dennis Franz as Capt. Lorenzo. The villains aren't nearly as memorable as Alan Rickman and his gang but they're compelling nonetheless.

The action sequences are just as good as the first. The original had a lot of quiet moments in between the action sequences, well not this one, i'd say there's more action overall. More guns, more explosions, satisfying bloody kills, some of the best Ski-Doo chase sequences i've seen and lots of funny one-liners just like the first. Despite the long runtime it breezed by. Epic finale!

To follow up on perfection is hard, and Renny Harlin didn't quite make it, but Die Hard 2 is a good movie non-the-less. Willis does a good job being an ordinary cop in an extraordinary situation yet again, and even though the setting is a bit more "open" than Die Hard...it works. The dialogue is a little more stiff and artificial than the first one, but it's nothing you'll notice too much. The action is actually a little step up from its predecessor but might be a tad "overdone" in some places. It doesn't really hurt the movie, and might even have made it better for some.

I've got some nice memories tied to this movie, and for me, it's even more of a Christmas movie than the first one. The first time I watched it was with my father on VHS, and, you guessed it, it was around Christmas time.

Yes...Renny Harlin has had some turkeys to his name, but Die Hard 2 is a good movie and deserves to be remembered as such even though it fell a little short of the first one, and I'll rewatch it again and again in the coming years.

Even though it's not nearly as good as the first Die Hard, this is still an entertaining movie. The basics for a good action movie are there, even a somewhat unexpected twist at the end and another iconic 'Yipi-ka-yee motherfucker'-scene. Some of the 'ordinary guy in extraordinary situation'-flair of the first movie seems to be missing however, which gives this just an entertaining status as opposed to the classic status of the first

Utterly ridiculous but I guess that's part of the fun.

What i learned
-> no need for aircontrollers or expensive lights, just use a fire and lots of planes can land fast.

-> helicopter and passengers are fine with disembarking on a snowy active runaway, especially when 2 planes have crashed.

-> everyone lives happy ever after at the end, well if you ignore the poor innocent 200+ passengers that died including kids.

-> why send a few soldiers out to remove mclean when can just have him 1 v1 with leaders.
