I love Resident Evil movies with Milla Jovovich than the game.

i forgot how much i loved resident evil. this was always one of my favorite shows growing up. i had a crazy obsession with zombies and milla jovovich was such a badass.

is it great in a technical sense? no. the acting is dramatic and yet still emotionally flat. the plot is your average hero vs. undefeatable enemy. it's nothing exceptional.

but it does bring back so many great memories and for that it will always be one of my favorite zombie films.

One of my favorite sci-fi zombie series, after Underworld.

I never played the video game so my review is NOT based on how this transitioned from the arcade version to the big screen. All I can comment on is the film for what it is, and in that regard I found it to be a pretty interesting film. Lots of cool effects and kill scenes but this particular movie seemed (to me, anyway) a bit light on the zombies. Yeah, there were a few scenes but zombie fans, don't get your hopes up: this was no _Day of the Dead_ where small intestines, kidneys, and other internal organs get ripped out and strung up in the air like a pepperoni pizza with extra cheese. Few attack scenes, along with one rarely (but FINALLY) seen "super boss" zombie thing that made things interesting for a few moments. This isn't the first time I've watched this, but it's been so long - and I've never had the pleasure of watching the entire RE franchise - that I decided to give it another watch. Not sorry I did. I'm guessing (again, I never played the video game so I don't know) that with a whopping 10 movies in the franchise (so far), this one was probably more of a backstory/buildup to what will be seen in the next few movies.

Take it from me: You don't **have** to play the videogame to enjoy this one; it stands alone as a decent zombie/action movie.

Grotesquely underrated. When people say there are no good video game movies, I slap them upside the head with this.

Non-stop action, great practical effects and a metal soundtrack that slays… This is the movie by which I judge all action / horror movies. And, oh yeah, I'd put up the first 8 minutes of this movie against any you could name.

I can stomach very few zombie movies because I'm just not on that train, but being a fan of the games I gave it a shot. I enjoyed it. Jovovich is awesome as ever. At least I could get thru the movie, whereas the games not so much!

The "Get Through" the Resident Evil Series Project of 2021 - # 1 of 6
---

I had forgotten how closely Resident Evil captures the "feel" of the games. It's not that clever story-wise, but it has some pretty good jump scares, and I tensed up more than once, even though I have seen this one numerous times before.

Most of the actors do a decent enough job with the material they had, and even though, as I said, the story is not really that clever, it works good enough to drive the action

I also think it was a wise choice to not solely use characters from the games (almost non at all in fact), as that fact makes it easier to see this movie as separate from the games rather than a part of the main "game storyline".

The effects are dated, but what do you expect. The movie is almost 20 years old.

All in all, I had a good time rewatching Resident Evil, but I dread what's ahead.

...and yeah...the dogs are...something else. That's for sure.

While making their certain "creative license" in general terms it remains true to the spirit of the story of the first game. There will be a great movie (s more, would not pass the "success summer), but is good and recommended if you liked the first deliveries of the Resident Evil games.

-----------

I have never played the games - it just wasn´t my thing. I´m not much into that zombie theme but I think Resident Evil is, in the context of it´s timeframe, a well made action-horror-scifi movie.
