I'm not a fan of the Twilight films. But New Moon takes a break from the vampire and werewolves cliches and tells a realistic story of depression that is portrayed in a way that feels very familiar. The editing, soundtrack, score, and cinematography is also great.

Holy Shit, this movie deserves at least one bonus star for every mention of "face punch". Plus I just really like Bella - I know she's supposed to be depressed in this but she barely seemed different from her normal absolutely-chill-with-whatever mood ("Jacob who?" - "Jacob's kinda a werewolf."). I wish I was that effortlessly cool. And despite the fact that I really like Sookie Stackhouse, if we accept the fact that this is fundamentally a romance story, Bella seems like a much more reasonable person, especially for her "okay, I guess this is my life now" attitude and the fact one of her first thoughts is "dude should probably turn me as soon as possible." And is it just me or does this movie actually benefit from the fact that Edward is barely in it? It seems to me Steward has much better chemistry with Lautner than Patterson.

The depression montage never fails to make me cry. This film was exactly what my depressed teenaged self needed at the time.

This 1 was my least fav of the series. I don't like how Bella was completely depressed and ready to end/wreck her life.

Unfortunately _New Moon_ sets The Twilight Saga back a step, as it fails to realize Meyer’s vision. Following an accident at Bella’s birthday party the Cullens leave Forks, sending Bella into a deep depression; meanwhile strange thing are happening on the Quileute reservation. This chapter opens up the series and develops a full, rich fantasy world, but the execution is rather poor. Director Chris Weitz doesn’t seem to have a full handle on the material. And while the emotional/melodramatic themes are captured well, the action/suspense themes are rushed (though the fight scenes themselves are exciting and dynamic). The CGI effects for the werewolves are also problematic, lacking photorealism; which becomes a bit distracting given how significant werewolves are to the story. Still, _New Moon_ moves the series forward and sets the stage for an epic saga.

Probably the my least favorite of the series as although the characters and plot development and scenery are all still spectacular, the plot of this one is a bit strange for me as I felt the original author could have gone a different direction. The sudden departure of Edward and then him re-entering the picture as the main character at the end was a bit unnecessary in some ways. However, the introduction of somme new characters really sets up well for an exciting last 3 films.

Same vain as the original movie. It's not great and not really one I planned to rewatch. A small step back from the first as it loses the luster of the origin story / introduction to the world.
