I found this as a Stargate fan, and I saw David Hewlett wrote, directed and starred in a film with his sister Kate, and then Stargate alumni Paul McGillion, Christopher Judge, and Rachel Luttrell, and I had no idea whatsoever what to expect with the from it, and honestly low expectations due to seeing this during COVID for the first time, and being extremely cynical.

All that fluff said, this film really had me laughing, and I freely admit that seeing David and Kate alone was enough to make me giddy (this is my favorite sibling duo on TV, that I know of at least, I don't really follow celebrities) after their interaction on Atlantis, add in Paul, Christopher and Rachel, this was guaranteed(?) a 4 due to nostalgia alone. I found it fun though, truly, it was slow, this is not a fast paced movie, but it pays off at the end, or it did so for me.

Sometimes a film turns me off and I can't explain why. This time, thought, the reason is easy to put into words: It's too much like _Fargo_, another so-called dark comedy that made me tune out within the first half-hour. So I guess ==a good tl;dr would be: Watch this if you liked _Fargo_, and skip it if you didn't.==

I've now noticed that my rating of that _other_ film is far too high, but there's no way I'm rewatching it to assign a more accurate score. Since I don't like changing my ratings if it's been a while since I saw something, it'll just have to stay.

But back to _A Dog's Breakfast_. Aside from the immediately obvious parallels to another film I couldn't stand, this is just such a disappointment for anyone who, like me, saw _Stargate Atlantis_ and wanted to see David Hewlett play someone other than Rodney McKay. Unfortunately, Patrick _is_ Rodney, but with more neuroses and less intelligence. And sure, in the first few minutes I grinned a little at how similar the characters were, but the amusement passed quickly.

One could argue that I shouldn't even rate this movie at all, because I spent about two-thirds of it playing games on my phone to alleviate the tedium. Even I used to think that way until I realized that such behavior is a very useful hint, to be _used_ when rating.
