Vanilla Sky

David Aames has it all: wealth, good looks and gorgeous women on his arm. But just as he begins falling for the warmhearted Sofia, his face is horribly disfigured in a car accident. That's just the beginning of his troubles as the lines between illusion and reality, between life and death, are blurred.

One of my favorite movies of all time! You must watch from the beginning and not miss anything, or you will be totally lost! Superbly done with great acting, great music, and a great plot....

It's a remake? Yes - a remake of a spanish film 'Open Your eyes' is an underrated piece. It's just perfect the way it is, the learnings, the open ending, the confusions all are worth it. You can question reality but that's not the point, it was always what you are.
It's definitely one of the best works of Tom Cruise and even his one of the best movies. All other actors were good but Cameron Diaz shines out. The movie is centred about humility and love for others or being selfish. A must watch.
The screenplay is damn good, building up slowly and outraging in the later half. Also ending hits hard because it was always in front of you, hinted in many ways but you didn't see it, maybe you didn't want to. BGM plays a major role, it binds you to the scene.

I know there are a lot people who really disliked this film, but I think it’s really well done. There are some great performances from much of the cast, some really fantastic imagery, some meaningful quotes, and a great soundtrack to top it all off.

However you feel about the plot of this movie, the soundtrack, lighting and colour scheme are enough for me to have this as a comfortable 9. I find it funny that so many critics called this a navel-gazing project for Cruise when much of the dialogue and drama is laser-focused on the main character's own vanity.

It's hard to watch Vinalla Sky without thinking about Cruise's personal life at the time. Freshly divorced from Kidman and fully under the thumb of Scientology. The latter might be a skeleton key for me, the similarities between LE and Scientology are rampant. For the former, I wouldn't be surprised if you went back to the year 2000 and read tabloid articles about Kidman being a "crazy blonde".

Maybe I watched it at a formative moment and that's why I vibe with it so much, but I love the _mood_ of Vanilla Sky too much to actually give a shit about its internal logic or even quality of acting.
