The performances are heartbreaking, the story both tragic and uplifting - Amenabar has crafted yet another film that's sure to please many.

He's been bedridden for 15 years, the first time I saw this movie I was walking through my school in a philosophy class. In 2007, due to a damn medical negligence, I was almost quadriplegic, there have been moments of joy, but also of sadness, because friends do not last forever, and the years go by and one simply lives until death comes to us simply. It was very hard for me to see her again now in the company of my dear mother because she is 70 years old, and I am only 34 years old and I co-depend on her for almost everything.

It is an extremely good film that touches on the issue of euthanasia as a right and stars javier bardem in the lead role.

It touches upon the issue of two imbeciles presenting this as a blessing to the human being they brought into this disgraceful world to secrete fluid for 5-10 minutes, but when he wants to die of his own will, this is seen as a crime by the secular state and a hellish sin for religion\society through a man who has been paralysed from the neck down for 28 years.

It does not try to create a sensational or heavy drama. It tells what it will tell fluently without verbiage and criticises it.

The most awarded film in Spanish cinema. A fact that, if we are honest, shocks me quite a bit. A film that becomes somewhat long, heavy and tedious. I understand that this film was something new in its day due to the subject matter it deals with, but I dare say that it has not aged well. The direction is brilliant (I didn't expect anything less from Amenabar), the performances are stellar (Bardem is spectacular) and there are touches in the dialogue that are good and emotional. Beyond that, it seems to me to be a somewhat simple film in script and plot.
