Paranormal Activity is a low-budget horror film that became a phenomenon. Using the found footage style, the film follows a young couple that buys a video camera in order to investigate bizarre occurrences that have been plaguing their house. The storytelling is excellent, and feels especially authentic. And, it does an amazing job at incrementally building the suspense and increasing the intensity of every scene. With blood chilling terrors and disturbing imagery, Paranormal Activity delivers an extraordinarily terrifying experience.

Even on a second watch, again around midnight, it scared the shit out of me. I don't have that with almost any film, but this one. DAMN, it just scares me.

I praise Oren Peli to do so much with so little, it works amazingly and it says something that it still creeps me out on a rewatch. I don't think many people can watch this and not be affected after. Now I won't watch this again for a couple of years. I want to sleep well again.

There are some rough patches, but overall, it's not a bad film. “Paranormal Activity” is shot in a found footage format, with believable acting and some effective scares. The film brilliantly capitalizes on the concept that what's scariest isn't often what you see, but what you imagine, and it does so effectively. However, that is about all it has going for it; it is not really terrifying, the story is as ordinary as it possibly could be, and the conclusion leaves a lot to be desired. If you have some time to kill, you probably will not regret checking it out, but I personally don't think it's worth going out of one's way to do so.

Not the best movie out there, but it must have been 'big' in 2007. The plot is predictable and nothing really happens in it. But it must be appreciated for the idea of shooting it with only 3 actors and a low budget camera (which of course was an innovation for the 2000s). It's a classic for a reason.

The actress that plays Katie is bad, I'm sorry.

Rewatching this series in chronological order makes Micah is 100x more annoying knowing what I know now.

Unlike a lot of people, I really enjoy this movie and the franchise in general. Obviously it feels dated now, but for a tiny budget film, it really revitalized the found footage genre, which had started to stagnate in the face of larger scale horror movies with bigger budgets in Western markets. Not an amazing film, but worth a watch, for sure.

That being said, the boyfriend in this movie is one of the most frustrating characters in cinematic history. Horror movie boyfriends and husbands being terrible to their significant others is nothing new, but short of overt abusers, he might be one of the worst in history. Needless to say, [spoiler]I was not the least bit sad when he bit the dust, because if anyone deserved to get murked by a demon, it was Micah.[/spoiler]

I swear this shit summons random noises in my house everytime I watch it.

A better film than 'Alien', and that's probably my most based take.

Paranormal Activity, a found footage horror film, is an eerie and thrilling story about the demonic haunting of two students in San Diego. Despite its low budget of $15,000, the film was a box office success and it's not hard to see why. Using a home video camera and filming in the director's own house, the film creates a sense of realism and believability that adds to the fear factor. The technical and creative restraints used in the film, such as using a cinecam and improvised script, adds to the feeling of a real-life documentary. The performances of the lead actors, Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat, are convincing and their chemistry adds to the realism of the film. Their relationship also becomes more interesting as the film goes on and adds to the thematic backbone of the film, which is about the balance of control. Overall, while the film isn't perfect, it's a strong entry into the found footage sub-genre and is best viewed with a group of friends.

Usando una cámara de video casera y filmando en la propia casa del director, la película crea una sensación de realismo y credibilidad que se suma al factor miedo. While I agree with the majority of the comments here that say this movie is "boring", at the same time I found it interesting enough to keep my attention both times I've watched it. Yes, it's plodding; yes, it's boring; yes, very little of it makes any sense but seriously..."lock the bedroom door"? That's your solution to whatever is going on? That's about as brilliant as all of Micha's so-called "solutions". (By the way, he's an arrogant butthead and she's an idiot for staying with him when he obviously showed ZERO support for what she was having to deal with.) If you're reading this review, the best thing I can say about it is that it's not for everyone. Most of the time it's very boring (simply because nothing is happening), and when a couple things do happen, it makes very little sense. I give it credit for having an extremely creepy vibe to it, but I would stop short of calling it "scary". They did a great job making this feel "authentic" but you have to sit through an hour-and-a-half of "home videos" and I would stop short of saying it's actually worth it. Not enough happens to merit wasting that much time.
