Great adventure movie, with a great Gregory Peck, great direction
you get the typical american hero bs from the 50s here. noone can shut up about how great hornblower is whenever he does whatever. he also manages extrodinary feats with simple plans. like capturing massive ships by simply rowing a boat to it and saying them to surrender. how tactical and smart. his skill is being the main character in a 50s hollywood movie.
we also have the same era's comical villans. he is the main reason this movie is ruined by a lot actually. his acting is so bad and comical, you cant help but reminded of 50s hollywood in every frame.
overall a really bad film only elevated by whats gotten from the book. not a ouce of good ideas dropped in by director
