Creep

Looking for work, Aaron comes across a cryptic online ad: “$1,000 for the day. Filming service. Discretion is appreciated.” Low on cash and full of naiveté, he decides to go for it. He drives to a cabin in a remote mountain town where he meets Josef, his cinematic subject for the day. Josef is sincere and the project seems heartfelt, so Aaron begins to film. But as the day goes on, it becomes clear that Josef is not who he says, and his intentions are not at all pure.

This movie is different. I really liked how this was done. You know there is something completely off with Josef and yet nothing truly horrific is revealed until almost the end of it.

>*"I love wolves because they love deeply, but they don't know how to express it, and they're often very violent and, quite frankly, murder the things that they love."*

Get comfortable and let's go tubby with Mark Duplass! Just a creep taking advantage of people who ignore every red flag in red flag history. This is a found footage classic by now, one of the best and fairly well-written. Mark Duplass is the driving force of this movie, he's weird, charismatic and hilarious. The kind of comedy that's just so weird you can't help but laugh at. Lots of irony and dark humor. It's a character study to me, we get to know a good deal about Peachfuzz and he's an interesting character. No boring parts I just enjoy this from beginning to end. Love the change in setting in the second half. Makes no sense why Aaron keeps filming sometimes but i'm glad he filmed it. Great ending, a bit predictable but the commentary after elevates everything.

This is probably the best found footage style film that I’ve seen up to this point. The story is awesome.

This isn't a horror movie, it is a thriller, as a thriller is really really good, but it does'nt have nothing of a horror movie.

Creep can't really escape the narrative weakness that many "found footage" films suffer from - the suspension of disbelief required to accept the rationale of the "filmmaker" to carry on filming no matter the way in which the plot develops. That being said, the central conceit actually works quite well here - there is a deep sense of unease that is developed in the film, but the film manages to just about keep the audience on side with the central character's dilemma of conforming to social niceties in the face of an antagonist that he clearly recognises as creepy, but rationalises the behaviour as socially inept rather than dangerous. There are a couple of clever tricks employed in the use of the footage that work really well and the final act and reveal to show how the footage came to be "found" is a nice twist on the usual abrupt finale that most films like this employ.
