Just saw it today at Imagine Film Festival. Really amazing. Fairytale with beautiful songs meets the 300 movies ;d!

// EDIT (2.5 years later): I was super bummed out when Imagine didn't show the sequel this or last year.

Amazing movie with breathtaking effects, a real visual treat! The movie keeps you on the edge of seat - you know its an indian movie because the main actors suddenly start singing in the movie - new for me but I can live with that because its action packed! Can't wait for part 2 !

I'd probably like this more if I saw this in a theatre with some friends instead of by myself on the TV. Plot ain't much overall, Indian cinema tropes & the movie is loooong. The appeal is definitely in the spectacles & the dudes rock content in the film. There's also some appeal if you're just in the mood for some Indian cinema, though Bahubali is definitely a movie that plays best at theatres so you can take in all the big set pieces & sound

An Indian Hamlet, but with massive wars against the orcs as you would expect in a LOTR movie. Both CGI and practical effects look quite terrible, especially if compared to the more recent “RRR”. At times it reaches a Princess Xena-like charm. Nonetheless, it compensates with an abundance of exhilarating, larger-than-life moments that effectively indulge our guilty pleasure.

Too bad that the protagonist is an obnoxious molester that turns the originally independent female lead into a toy in a matter of seconds.

Real score: ☆☆
Guilty pleasure score: ☆☆☆1/2
Final score: ☆☆☆

Tldr: watched both movies, a giant waste of time.

Both parts are far too long for how little happens in the plot itself. Good CGI, big budget fancy fight sequences, and that's all that is good, frankly. The simplicity of plot is not an issue in itself, the premise of a "lost royal heir" etc is a classic, but the execution is completely ridiculous. And most of the "moral lessons" are very disappointing if one thinks about them for 10 seconds.

The plot isn't deep or complex, but this could be forgiven. But the execution is actually even more lacking.
I managed to last till the combat between the hero and his love interest, but this was so cheesey I simply had to quit.

Shame that ratings for Indian movies generally can't be trusted. It makes finding the few actual highlights an unnecessary challenge.
