I've resisted watching this movie since it came out - tonight I caved. To my surprise, I actually enjoyed it. It was fun, goofy, and sweet. If you want to watch something that is just sweet mindless fun, this is it.

How I rate:
1-3 ❤ = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6 ❤ = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8 ❤ = I expect you will like this too
9-10 ❤ = movies and TV shows I really love!

Don't expect too much here. It's just some Disney style, kid friendly, stupid-fun entertainment.

I get why the guy from the new MacGyver show in this, Jane Levy (Don't Breath, Evil Dead) deserves better though. Surprisingly though, a lot of talented people are in this....
My 5 yr old niece loves it though. I found the movie surprisingly decent due to the good cast. While Lucas Till (MacGyver) fits this film more than he does at playing MacGyver.

the film was better then excepted if you are able not to care for a real story. face the reality - it's a film bout 80ties toy cars. the film works extremly well on the emotional level.
but the biggest flaw of this film is that it is pretending to care about life and enviroment if you take a look at its "story". but with its visual storytelling it tells us that it is ok to spoil oil on the ground
and a crashed poison truck is ok as long it doesn't poison a special habitat of creatures
.
normaly i would say it's a fun film but this is a massive slap in the face.

I do not think I will ever find tentacle monsters cute (thanks, Japan!), but this movie almost made me change my mind. Almost. The being enslaved by a human part did not help, it was so mean.
It was otherwise goofy, but enternaining. It had an interesting 80's feel to it, without pushing it too hard, like recent works have been doing. It just was not actually good.
I was glad to see Jane Levy though. I wish she had more job offers, she is way better than Nickelodeon movies.

Throwback to the kind of movies that were churned out to families in the 1980's, but this is far dumber than any of them. Aside from the weird (and cruel) conceit of monsters trapped within a truck's engine, this also has a bland, unexciting script and underdeveloped characters. The acting isn't so great either, but then the actors aren't given a lot to work with. Undemanding kids may enjoy it, but there are far better movies out there which don't speak down to their intelligence.

_Monster Truck_ is like when you exploit the school's foreign exchange student so the bullies can't exploit the school's foreign exchange student.

Imagine _ET_, _Save Willy_, or _The Shape of Water_ (without the sex) with more action but also, somehow, more boring. Seriously, if you're on board to see monsters doing stuff in trucks like on the poster, you have a long wait before the movie takes off -- it's as slow as a snail-powered Amish buggy.

Speaking of monsters in trucks, watching underground sea creatures power massive motor vehicles is the **least** preposterous aspect of this film considering the multitude of WTFs (You left your cellphone in the truck? I have an app that can track it!) and two adults in their mid twenties playing high school students.
