Case 39

In her many years as a social worker, Emily Jenkins believes she has seen it all, until she meets 10-year-old Lilith and the girl's cruel parents. Emily's worst fears are confirmed when the parents try to harm the child, and so Emily assumes custody of Lilith while she looks for a foster family. However, Emily soon finds that dark forces surround the seemingly innocent girl, and the more she tries to protect Lilith, the more horrors she encounters.

Omen with a top cast. That said, given the cast, it should be an even better movie, though the cast just manages to save it from mediocrity.
In the end, it is a decent movie of the possessed kind.
For lovers of the genre.

one word? meh. the child actor - who is an adult by now- was good playing her creepy part, but the story was super predictable and uninspired. you kinda knew what would happen from the bat, there was no attempt to cover some unexplained parts, a "horror" flick to watch when you don't really want to think about it or be too involved in a deep story

Giving it a first time viewing off the To-Watch Pile for my 31 Days Of Horror. Figured it was time, considering how much Renee Zellweger has been on everyone's mind recently.

A disturbing thriller, Case 39 delivers some frightening chills. The story follows a social worker who rescues a young girl from an abusive home and takes her under her care, but soon starts to believe that the girl is evil when people start dying around her. Starring Renee Zellweger, Jodelle Ferland, Ian McShane, and Bradley Cooper, the film has a pretty impressive cast. And the script does a good job at creating tension and suspense. However, it does get a little cliché at times; hitting the usual horror tropes. Yet while Case 39 may be a little formulaic, it’s still entertainment and full of intrigue.

good child actor (now just five years younger than me which is such a weird feeling) but otherwise the acting was meh and the vfx felt circa 2003 at best. very little of the movie felt believable and even a small amount of knowledge about social work will make it hard to suspend any disbelief about the circumstances of the movie. also moral of the story don't name your kid lilith if you don't want her to be a demon??

Well, that was...stupid :D I am not the smartest guy but even I knew what will happen in this movie after like 10-15 minutes. Very predictable, and let me just say that this is not a horror movie...not one scary moment, and the atmosphere was just pale. But there is one good thing about Case 39 and that is Jodelle Ferland as Lily. She was GREAT. You need to have a good kid actor (she was 14 at the time), in this type of movies, and let me just say that she did a brilliant job. She was the main reason why I watched this movie till the end. And Renne Zellweger...well, let my just say that this was not her best performance :D 4/10

Verging on Scary Movie spoof territory too many times to even remotely take seriously.
