Atari: Game Over

A real complete documentary. If you are a videogamers, you have to see it to reveal the mystery behind the famous E.T. game. Interviews and testimonials help to make this documentary accurate in every detail. The documentary could be heavy for those unfamiliar with the story behind the fall of Atari, one of the largest software companies of the 80s. E. T.It was really a bad game? Or the spread of this legend has actually magnified the whole thing? How could someone like Bushnell, the father of video games, to bring to ruin a company with a single game? The documentary tends to shed light on these issues and, albeit with a bit of monotony in some places for the classical category, it manages to keep the attention of the viewer. The documentary becomes almost secondary behind the ability to mount all that, from the origins of Atari, describes the glory and the collapse of the software house. In short, recommended to everyone for the accuracy with which explains things. Ultimately, players will go really crazy, revealing in fact one of the biggest secrets that the history of this media has hidden for years.

This is the story of the much maligned ET game for the Atari 2600 and the urban legend regarding its disposal in a desert landfill. This is a great hook to tell the tale of the game, the incredible programmer that made this game in 5 weeks and created classics like Yars Revenge and Raiders of the Lost Ark, the fall of the Atari 2600 era of video games, and good old fashioned fandom. It's a fun flick clocking in at 68 minutes. Worth a viewing. 7/10

Rather than concentrating on an epic story of the emergence of Atari, it relies on telling a ridiculous story about one crap game that emerged years later and was returned by most consumers. The second half of the film is about a group of nerds with so much time on their hands, they’re digging up a landfill, looking for 80’s waste, lol. The creator of the game is so full of himself, it makes you want to switch off. Real annoying! It could have been so much better concentrating on Atari, rather than a bunch of geeks looking for some worthless game!

I couldn't go back to sleep so I turned on the TV and saw this on SHOWTIME Beyond channel on a Sunday morning 6AM. I did not know that E.T. the Atari video game was made in 5 weeks. In today's standards, that's pretty much an indie game jam session. There definitely are some better, more interesting, video game-related documentaries out there though.
