From Ang Lee comes the compelling war drama _Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk_. Based on a novel, the story follows returning war hero Billy Lynn and his squad as they wrap up a good will tour by appearing in the halftime show of a Dallas Cowboys game. The script is especially well-writing and addressing a number of topical issues, including the exploitation of soldiers, PTSD, and the comradery of brothers in arms. It’s not really pro- or anti-war, rather the film looks at the realities that soldiers face. The cast is fairly good and delivers some strong performances. And the production values are especially well-done, particularly the cinematography. A smart and thought-provoking film, _Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk_ is incredibly powerful.

I'm a little surprised by the negative comments on this page. I thought this was a fine movie, an original way to highlight the reality of war with the contrasting reactions of the people back home. The much maligned use of 4K technology is also implemented well, becoming a framework of the story... we parade our men on our tv screens with all the flash and glory, without considering the emotional scars lying beneath each soldier's exterior. Recommended.

The high frame rate looked terrible. We don't want to watch reality. We want to watch a fantasy. 24 frames rate gives that dreamlike, fantasy look.

Vin Diesel as Yoda? Seriously!? Billy Lynn covers the same ground as other Iraqi war films except it does it worse. Instead of watching this jumble of ideas and exercise in boring predictability, watch Jarhead instead. It's the same theme, though with a better story and better acting.

_Billy Lynn's_ script and acting are so bad, that no patriotic theme or action scene can save it.

The movie is full of implausible moments,
)like falling in love at first sight with a cheerleader and getting brutally attacked by a bunch of workers for some reason)
and awful and unnecesary spiritual-esque talking between Joe Alwyn and Vin Diesel (who by the way, is probably the worst actor for that role, as the only thing he seems to do well is driving fast cars in the worn out Fast and Furious saga). We also see hear some lines that are worth a laugh. Like, seriously worth a laugh.

And the performances... Everyone is acting like a robot, waiting for their time to say the next line. It honestly reminded me of the cut-scenes you see in some video games: weird facial expressions, lack of emotion, forced movements, etc. I couldn't find one moment worth more than an _OK_ in terms of dramatic execution.

The only thing I can imagine would please some people, could be the _God-bless-America_ scent all over this film. The criticism of the society is clear and, at some times, recognizable and true. The war scenes are also pretty decent in terms of action and acting (they are scarse, though, so if you come looking for them, go somewhere else).

If you want the post-war drama reflecting the problems veterans face when they come home, you could give it a chance -with high probabilities of failing-. If these things are not what you are looking for, then don't waste your time, because there is nothing to see here.

Yes this movie is pretty mediocre , nothing delivers, weak plot and in some cases no plot with just random stuff happening and boring in some other parts. Despite the "big" names on the film which are just appear for a short time.
You will loose nothing if you skip this one

Does anyone remember before this was released, people predicted this as an Oscar front runner?

The good old days.

This movie was terrible. Sooo boring. The bad acting and subpar script formed a one-two powerhouse of awful. I saw this at the Dome so I could experience this 120fps and not even that made it worth it. 120fps makes it look like you're watching a live musical on NBC or something, like a taped play. But anyway, this movie3. So boring I had to fight to stay away for the first half. Lucily the second half had some real doozies for lines so I spent that time ltrying not to laugh or groan.

Mostly decent, though it disappoints a bit near the finish line and can't quite deliver on its message.
I was fine with it not being conclusive but I think that the bittersweet ending was too broad, maybe even afraid of making a statement. I was left with the impression that if they managed to get the movie done, it would have even been a happy ending on the characters' minds...
