Good job Emma! why is this underrated?
underrated, keeps the veiwer hooked till the end.
Yooooo I had no idea this movie would be as good as it was! First of all it's a true story! So the fact that this really happened is even more crazy. Definite 2 Thumbs Up from me!
Didn't expect much but it was a nice movie. Shocking facts about a cult and how it worked. Didn't believe though the love story and how far a girlfriend went for her boyfriend who we have no idea even how long they are together. Other than that its a great strong political story.
I was rather surprised that this movie turned out to better than expected. And how horrible that this is based on a true settlement of this horrible Nazi … and nobody really got punished …
International community failed once again!
Great acting but did not expect less from Emma.
Gripping and disturbing story, based on truth, though Watson and Bruhl's characters are fictitious. A Hollywoodised ending is fun but slightly undermines the seriousness of the film and the subject matter.
Sometimes a movie leaves you with a bittersweet feeling. It draws you in with its subject matter, but then you’re left thinking it could have been done so much better. That’s exactly how I felt with this film.
The story of Colonia Dignidad is disturbing—both unbelievable and horrifying—but the film falls short. It tries to be a historical/political drama and suddenly shifts into an action thriller, without fully committing to either. Emma Watson and Daniel Brühl do their part, but the script feels forced. Watson plays a determined protagonist on a mission to rescue her partner, but at times, she doesn’t quite sell the character. Meanwhile, Brühl effectively conveys a sense of entrapment, though his dialogue often feels too shallow.
What bothers me the most is that, despite dealing with such a heavy topic—the Pinochet coup in Chile—the film fails to convey the true gravity of these events. Instead of diving into the historical and social core, it leans into a conventional thriller with chase scenes that, while entertaining, take away from the seriousness of the story. It tries to be two things at once and ends up succeeding at neither.
That being said, the cinematography and set design are well executed. They create an eerie atmosphere that captures the oppressive and terrifying nature of the era, but even that isn’t enough to make up for how surface-level the film remains.
Ultimately, it’s an interesting movie because of its subject, but in its attempt to be more commercial, it loses much of the depth it could have had. It’s not bad, but it won’t leave a lasting impression either.
Colonia - ❤x5
This was definitely not my kind of movie - I generally find movies like this really boring. However, I do recognize its worth and you might like it. Having said that, I had a hard time believing that
a woman who seemingly barely knew this guy would willingly enter a bad cult for him with little hope of ever getting out
How I rate:
1-3 ❤ = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6 ❤ = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8 ❤ = I expect you will like this too
9-10 ❤ = movies and TV shows I really love!
i know is a movie and sometimes is pure fiction, the love story is impossible, but the message is strong.
