It is not a great movie, but it is a good movie, some (most) of the special effects are bad, but the story itself is fantastic.

Great story, not a great movie. A modern remake could probably do it justice as the special FX were not great.

Despite the dodgy direction and low budget, this tragic tale maintains some emotion at the injustice and tragedy of the real life event. However, there is still a better film to be made on the subject.

A mediocre historical drama, USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage is the harrowing story of survival against incredible odds. In the summer of 1945 the USS Indianapolis embarked on a covert mission to transport the atomic bomb and during its return the ship was sunk by a Japanese submarine, leaving over 900 sailors adrift in shark infested waters. Featuring Nicolas Cage, Tom Sizemore, and Thomas Jane, the cast isn’t too bad. However, the script is awful; it’s extremely heavy handed and is full of cheesy and clichéd dialog. The special effects are also really bad (particularly the CGI) and looks cheap, as do a lot of the sets. And unfortunately the shark attacks are ridiculous (Jaws: The Revenge kind of ridiculous); with the sharks jumping out of the water to get at people. Still, it’s an interesting story with a fair amount of suspense and intrigue to it. Yet while it has its moments, USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage just isn’t up to the challenge of bringing this story to the big-screen.

Nicolas. Mother. Fucking. Cage.

Despite the questionable roles he takes, I still think he's a good actor. He can turn a boring or horrible movie into pure magic just by starring in it. And while he's performance in this movie wasn't the bat-shit insane or just hilariously wonderful Cage that we know, but was still hammy.

The movie itself isn't anything worth remembering, but I watched it anyway just for Cage.

Sharknado is better than this movie, and has more believable CGI.

Worst WWII movie I have ever seen. Very poor special effects. Not worth the time. Mario VanPeebles is not a good movie maker low budget. I love Nick Cage but not in this. Want to see a good WWII movie watch Pearl Harbor made a while ago but beats the hell out of this. I can't say enough bad about this movie. Low budget obviously

Boy this is bad. Turned it off after an hour. A great story was wasted on a crappy movie. The low budget shows at every corner. Actors are terrible most of the time delivering stiff one or two liners. Writing has flaws all over it. This is not a very well made movie that makes you want to watch it. Sorry Mr Van Peebles but this is a rotten tomatoe.
