Every person who reads about what happened to Kitty Genovese should watch the last segment of this documentary: when an actress reinacts the screaming that took place when Kitty was first attacked and where she ultimately died around the corner based on the accounts. There is no other way to interpret the response of the neighborhood (or potentially the police based on 3 claiming they called but the police logs show nothing) as anything other than pure apathy. The terror that woman must have experienced as she was attacked twice without aid is captured in vivid gut-wrenching clarity. We owe each other so much more than she got.
