Beautiful film. About the disabled girl who can create masterpieces and live on her own. Gives hope.

Sally Hawkins and Ethan Hawkes were just superb together. Their onscreen chemistry was palpable. Just loved this story. Happy this Canadian tale got such beautiful treatment.

This is a subtle and simple story that is executed to perfection. I laughed out loud, I had tears in my eyes and I loved every moment of this film. Hawkins is a revelation in this role and she brings out a performance in Hawke that I did not know he had in him. One of the best films of the year.

Hawkins and Hawke (could be a tv cop duo) are exceptional in their roles, but the film seems to paint broad strokes across Maudie's art, so it's never as insightful as I think it could have been. Still well worth watching as a character piece, but you will have to look elsewhere for a look at her life's work.

A must see movie! Sally Hawkins and Ethan Hawkes both deserve an Oscar. If you over-look the casting of attractive actors, this story captured the essence of the people portrayed, was well told, was beautifully shot (set in Newfoundland rather than its native Nova Scotia - curses on Priemer Steven MacNeil who took away our NS film tax credit thus diminishing what was becoming a thriving film industry), and was a delight to watch. I give it a 9 (superb) out of 10.

About a well-known Nova Scotian but shot in The Goulds near St John's, Newfoundland and Labrador (not that it really matters).
