"The Naked Gun" is one of my favorite comedies. The slapstick, the setup to the joke, the payoff...just great. I loved the original "Police Squad!" TV series. It only lasted 6 episodes back in 1982, but it was a lot of fun.
This movie features some great character actors. There's Leslie Nielsen, George Kennedy, and Ricardo Montalbon (Priscilla Presley not so much). It makes no sense to try and explain the story. Everything is wordplay, gags, and visual absurdities. Nielsen should be considered one of Hollywood's finest comedic actors. High praise, I know, but he's one of my all-timers.
amazing...
the comedy scenes are good...
the plot is not amazing either, but the comedy is absolutely absurd and good...
I hope Liam can fill the shoes of this great actor...
Funniest movie I've ever seen :D
Staggeringly funny - still, after all these years!
And from a time when everything could be made fun of.
An absolute classic.
10/10
One of my five favorite comedy movies of all time. It is quite dated now, but it will always be one my favs. I laughed out loud the first time I even saw a commercial for the movie (Jane telling Frank, "Everyone should have a friend like you!" while Nordberg rolls down the stadium steps in a wheelchair and launches airborne.)
The first time I saw the movie (as a 13-year old), I laughed through the whole thing, but when it got to the part where he "sings" the national anthem, I was laughing so hard I was crying & having trouble breathing. The whole entire baseball game sequence is top notch. The mic left on when he goes to the bathroom at the televised press conference, all the quotable lines, Leslie Nielsen at the top of his game...just superb.
hollywood will never ever make movies like this again.
Fantastic movie, and a great classic!
'The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!' is very well done. Amusing viewing!
Leslie Nielsen kills it in the lead role, I hear that Liam Neeson is doing the remake next year and, you know what, I can see it. O. J. Simpson and Priscilla Presley are quite the interesting other cast members, while George Kennedy is a good fit for his role alongside Nielsen. Ricardo Montalbán works well too.
I do like this sorta dry slapstick comedy, where the gags are constantly scattered throughout without being overtly pointed out by those onscreen. I also prefer this to "ZAZ"'s work from eight years prior in 'Airplane!', I'd say this one has better humour and a better story to accompany it.
I hope the sequels were as good!
What a fun, enjoyable ride. I never saw it before or when I was a little younger like I did with Weekend at Bernie's until now, so there wasn't a feeling of nostalgia like there is whenever I watch the latter. But it's up there up with Weekend at Bernie's now. And I hope one day I'll look back on this movie or watch it again with the same feeling of nostalgia. This movie deserves that. There were a lot of golden, memorable moments. I could see some similarities with movies like Johnny English and Get Smart. I guess the inspiration for that originated from this movie. Or maybe it's a specific type of something or other that's common and existed for a while. I don't know. Anyway, I was thoroughly entertained every second of the way. I can definitely see myself watching this again and again.
So many funny scenes. Brilliant
