What a fantastic film. Dustin Hoffman is great. Loved the soundtrack. Here's to you Mrs. Robinson.
The ending is super dark when you think about it.
Anne Bancroft is captivating in the role of the seducing middle aged married woman and Dustin Hoffman is spectacular as well. The plot would have made this movie a decent romantic comedy/ drama, had it not been for literally the last minute of this movie which skyrockets it to a rightful place amongst the classics. Some characters feel paper thin but that's probably the point. Still relevant to this day, with subtle messages that cut deep and a timeless soundtrack.

The Graduate review

The Graduate is a character-drama movie about a young man who gets in a affair with a married woman and then falls in love with her daughter!

It's so easy for a movie like this to turn into a perverted mess without really trying to be honest but The Graduate balances everything perfectly and is tbh really well acted and directed.

It does this by focusing more on the characters than anything unnecessary. For example, there are no sex scenes, only kisses on-screen. Everything that happens other than the characters is there to inform about the characters. That includes the vast wide-shots of the city, the various cinematic zooms and POVs, a pool, a fish and what not haha!

The movie begins and ends with "The Sound of Silence" sung by Simon and Garfunkel. It and the other songs in this movie are used perfectly to explore the relationships with characters. The ending is a really haunting cutoff in my opinion as the bus drives away.

9/10 what a movie, highly highly recommend

Hoffman was 30 on that movie and Anne Bancroft 36, the age difference wasn't very much actually, but they were going for a 20 teenager vs a 40 lady

A cultural moment that seems to have missed me at every turn, The Graduate is a timeless bit of film-making who's 1967 release year feels completely unfathomable. Visual metaphor, dynamic camera movement & a surreal levity make this ageless film about the struggle of indecision and doubt for the future just as relatable today as it probably was for the youth of the 1960s. Rarely do I enjoy movies this old this much, but The Graduate is simply sublime.
